Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows: Exclusive Movie Review

Guy Ritchie's take on the super sleuth is one to be amazed at. Sure, its not what purists were expecting (Go for your BBC UK's Sherlock please. That's a WHOLE LOT MORE AWESOME), but it still delivered. So a sequel was greenlit, but sadly, it does not give the awe inspiring awesomeness seen in the first.

Sherlock is back again investigating a case, that does not seem slightly related. As he escorts Dr. Watson to his wedding, he finally gets to confront Professor James Moriarty, arch nemesis and also as brilliant as Sherlock. But what Sherlock has not discovered yet, is he is about to play a very dangerous game, that Moriarty has already seemed to have won. Will he crack the case?

Its not surprising how the actor's were doing, especially Jared Harris this time. RDJ and Jude Law were their usual selves, but the big inclusion is obviously Moriarty. Now, some may love Jared's rendition, but I have a hunch that some may hate, due to lack of clarity in his stance and motives. But I personally would say that Jared nailed Moriarty as an amoral character who's aim are a lot more devious than one would expect.

The setpieces and scenes were okay, but closer to ho hum. Even the mental prediction fights were actually tamed (SPOILER: Except for the final one of course) and the action a little less milder. Sure, it felt that Guy Ritchie was doing things bigger. But I'd say that it lacks the flare that was present in the first.

Dialogue and score delivers. But there's just nothing to be vowed from. Its purely just simple popcorn entertainment that you have free time to spare.

Should you watch? If you like the first, sure. But don't come expecting to be wowed like before. If you haven't watch it, the good news is that you don't need the first to watch it. You already know who Sherlock is and how he is as told by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Kyo's Score: 7/10. MI 4 was more breath taking, even though I love Sherlock dearly.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol: IMAX Review

There is something wonderful in this poster. For most, they know its classic fuse being lighten up and is a tradition in Mission Impossible. For some, they'll notice its the Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the World currently. And I think it pays off. And it pays off well.

Ethan Hunt is back, on a mission that went totally haywire. Without giving too much away, after a mission that went wrong in the Kremlin, the US President initiated Ghost Protocol, with the IMF being disavowed. Without choice, the Secretary of Defense provides them with a potentially final mission to save the world again. With no back up, no extraction, no other support, they have no choice but to end some insane lunatic from ending the world.

Remember how it felt watching Rambo 2? By all accounts, everyone can agree its a fantastic Rambo movie. The making of an icon. Ethan Hunt is in the same league, although a little scrawnier. But of all the MI movies, this is what basically the Rambo 2 is to the whole series. Well, that is if God willing, there's another one coming up that can best this one.

The cast selection was good. You've got usual Tom Cruise. But the main stars now seem to be Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner (Who I now have absolute faith he can pull off Hawkeye). Paula Patton provides eye candy, but sadly has so little powerful moments. Anil Kapoor is a huge waste and his character shouldn't have been so. He may be a playboy, but he really needs some suave. Michael Nyqvist is a good antagonist on my account. I can understand the motivation of his character (even though the world would say his development is unnecessary). Such few lines and I can understand what he meant.

But the real winner is actually Brad Bird's direction. Class, style and finesse is truly delivered in every shot and every scene. He knew MI was getting too serious (Philip Seymour Hoffman was a big serious problem), and then came Simon Pegg being goofy, with Jeremy Renner complimenting his funny side further (that's not saying Jeremy doesn't have his moments, because his worked as well). We're thrown into Russia, Dubai (Burj Khalifa scene being the best), and Mumbai in the end.

Each set piece is well executed. And enhanced even better in IMAX. There's no doubt this should be watched in IMAX. The sound, the scenes (FULL WIDESCREEN AWESOMENESS!!!), the feel really gets you jumping. I kept cursing Brad Bird because of the scenes he took in IMAX for the Kremlin, Burj Khalifa, and even in the last scene in Mumbai.

Script is a winning formula with Simon Pegg helping deliver the laughs. The score is classic and wonderful (I would've preferred the one used in the trailer, due to its slower nature). And I have nothing else to tell you except to GO AND WATCH THE DAMN FILM IN IMAX!!!!

Kyo's Score: 9.5/10. If only I saw The A-Team in IMAX. :p

The IMAX Hall at TGV Sunway: Special Review

Since I wrote a nice piece on this and Blogger decided to become a bitch, here's how I felt in Short.

Con (The only one)
Its the smallest IMAX theatre TGV could afford. You're not getting the 5 storey screen treatment, but its still IMAX in every way possible.

THE PROS!!!!
Screen
-You may be able to notice the cropping when its in 35mm and in IMAX. But since the hall was small, the adjustment was barely notable.

Sound System
-TRULY AMAZING. My heart is pounding at every single IMAX scene that MI4 had. The sound delivers!!!

The seating
-Comfy and very spacious in terms of leg room.

The price
-Not bad at RM 22. Was expecting it to be RM 25 to 30. But the price makes it feel affordable and worth it.

My verdict
-The hall is an affordable Gold Class at GSC, and much better too. You're getting good value still as the screen is really in your face.

Recommendations
-BIGGER HALL PLEASE! And GSC, you know now what to do. So BRING IT!!!!

Fun fun fun. If you're reminded of Rebecca Black, stop it. But if you want some real fun, Real Steel. Of course, its not a perfect movie, but it does the job of taking 127 minutes of your life for a fun filled ride.

Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) is close a title shot in boxing. Too bad however, that the people felt boxing wasn't made for humans anymore. So they invented robot boxing. It left Charlie looking like a horrible gambler. Enter Max Kenton (Dakota Goyo), Charlie's illegitimate son that he has to take care after the mother passed away. A chance encounter Max's very own robot, Atom and these two begin a journey of not only cool hard cash, but cheesy fatherly hood bonding.

Lets get the weak out. We have a cheesy and corny script. We have an imbalance in pacing. And we have textbook rip offs of other movies like Rocky. And some of the actors are just not meant to be there.

The good part however, is pretty awesome. You're rewarded with good performances by Hugh and Dakota. The action is top notch, but ends at a sour note when the audience would've expected a more wonderful ending (This you must bear in mind, is coming from the Boxing Consultant, Sugar Ray Leonard). The soundtrack is blasting in your ears and fits. The script while cheesy, is intentionally done so. You can't look away but still laugh at what was being mentioned. Also, nice touches to the sets, the costumes, and even the robot animations too. This I give kudos to.

This is a movie where you can just lay down and have fun with. Nothing would spoil your mood out of it. And we love a good boxing match really. This serves well. 127 minutes of good fun that you can really enjoy.

Kyo's Score: 7/10. Some fun movies don't need high scores or mindbending scenes for it to be successful. It just has to be fun. :D

Warrior: Movie Review

In life, we're cast on simple facts of surviving. We go to work daily, try to eat balanced meals, and live for another day again and again. But there are some of us who resort to fighting the demons kept within ourselves and the demons that we face with. That is how Warrior sets itself. And the fights, literally and figuratively, is damn good to boot.

Warrior centers on 3 people, Paddy Conlon (Nick Nolte), Tommy Rheardon/Conlon (Tom Hardy) and Brandon Conlon (Joel Edgerton). They were all from a broken family with Paddy being drunk most of the time and never really the dad that Tommy and Brandon needed. Fast forward to the future, Brandon seems most successful when he had ran way from the broken family and made on his own as a Physics teacher. Tommy ran away with his mother and ended up as a Marines officer while Paddy sought to stop his drinking problems. But they all had something to fight for.

Brandon was quickly losing his house, Paddy repented and wanted his sons back, and Tommy's intentions of joining Sparta, a winner takes all fighting tournament remains a mystery (that is until closer to the middle of the story). As Brandon knew fighting was the only to keep things afloat, even he joined Sparta to end his debts. The question is, who emerges as the real winner?

The story is truly magnificent. I have never seen a fight movie so good since...Fearless. And that was damn good in its action setpiece (but weak in story telling). The story does not make you root for 1 character, because everyone has their good and bads, so you had to choose in a way or just let the wonders of the story unfold. The script benefits a whole lot and helps convey the emotion much more precise.

But the real winners were the actors. All 3 were spectacular and there was no doubt that they truly can move you. They may not win any Oscars, but damn this movie deserves a nomination for best picture.

Soundtrack does its job but sincerely you can't care much. There's quite a number of references to certain people in UFC and also the MMA circuits that they all do their jobs in striking fear.

You may think you're getting a typical ending, but I can say its perfect. Just enough and answers the questions you need and the loose ends wonderfully.

While this movie may only be available at Mid Valley and Sabah, please do not waste any moments and just watch it. You'll be thrilled, unless you hate long winded dramas like one guy I know who snored at theater. have fun!

X-Men: First Class: Movie Review

The world greeted a live action movie of the X-Men in the year 2000. Done by Bryan Singer, it was a great start to a franchise, which slowly diverted and became more Hollywood eccentric rather than Comic Lore eccentric (Wolverine having more spotlight than Cyclops. Cyclops is the leader dammit, not some deranged emo idiot). Then came news of the Origin series, and was to be about Wolverine and Magneto, much to fanboy's delight. The Wolverine part did well, although it was not rightly done. The Magneto one, never came to light, but it came in this one done beautifully by Matthew Vaughn of Kick-Ass fame. I choose this poster specifically because I wanted the cast in. Its definitely not all, but a lot of them.

And clearly, they and the movie do not disappoint.

First Class is basically the origins of Magneto and Professor X. In fact, to do these 2 justice, would be to call them Erik Lensherr and Charles Francis Xavier. Wonderfully done and executed by Michael Fassbender (His proficiency in language is FANTASTIC) and James McAvoy (Who knew this talented young chap of Wanted fame can pull of a super charming Xavier?), the two met under circumstances of knowing that a new evolution in human mutation has begun. One is capable of manipulation of magnetism while the other a telepath, began their friendship hunting for one common enemy, Sebastian Shaw (Its Kevin Bacon. KEVIN BACON), who intends to ignite World War III. And who knew that Raven Darkholme /Mystique was actually the adopted sister to Charles? Together, Erik and Charles recruit the earliest of mutants in the world and began a war that will be ensued between mutants, forever.

So I made my points clear, James McAvoy, Erik Lensherr, Kevin Bacon, the cast are all good and wonderfully done, except for January Jones. Then again, I can live with her since she's mainly there for eye candy. The script is brilliantly written and you'll know its Matthew Vaughn's writing when you get to the scenes (he loves to make you question yourself, A WHOLE LOT). The shots were even nicely done. Amazed that its not Bill Pope doing it (my fave Director of Photography). The score is wonderfully matched. Perhaps the only minor gripe I have in seeking this movie's perfection is that it should have ended with the X-men cartoon theme song. haha.

But the most surprising part, was actually the story itself. We all know where this is going. We all knew what would happen and we all knew what would be the start of the first X-Men story. And still its good. It is still wonderfully told. But perhaps the real highlight is how fun it is to see Charles and Erik come together as friends. And they are truly friends who stood by each other's side. But as we all know, the choice that both of them made, will be bitter to each other. In fact, it is actually to place pain in one another. Both were in actuality seeking to unite the mutant faction, and to be capable of living in peace, Neandarthals (The only reason I'm calling us humans this is only because we are incapable of accepting Mutants living among us) and humans. But Magneto realizes that humans will never be capable of accepting mutants alike, thus a new war is waged.

Perhaps what we have loved so much is to see our beloved X-men come into action, but the morality questions eludes us. Magneto doesn't want this war. He just wants to be accepted as another person, even if he's a mutant, while Xavier has always sought for mutants to accept humanity, a mistake which he could not teach Magneto soon enough.

The real weakest point I believe, in this whole movie, is that it will be made into sequels, whether or not Matt Vaughn will be apart of it. How I see it, it should just stay as it is. But I may be proven wrong, as how The Dark Knight was made.

You'll laugh, and maybe cry, but truly you would be leaving the cinema smiling. Having Hugh and Rebecca even gives an extra edge to the whole movie. Truly, this was a delight.

Rango: Movie Review

This is one awesome little lizard. When wanting to die he cheated death. When trying to be an actor, he ends up being something bigger and larger than life. That's the story of the lizard who calls himself... Rango...

Rango is a pet lizard who, sadly, after a car had ran over a tenggiling (i can't remember the english name. :P) was cast out in the dessert which the location I shall not name. After the tenggiling asked it to go to Dirt, a town for animals. Ok correction, a Western town, he ends up being the local sheriff, not knowing any clue whatsoever to be one. He is however, an actor, and believes he can be anything. But there is a conspiracy going on, and our hero is about to get more than he just bargained for.

Being voiced by Johnny Depp, Rango hits the right places everywhere. Not too cocky and not too shabby either, Depp does wonders for Rango. Sadly though, there are just moments when I think Depp isn't doing enough. The rest cast however did just ok though.

But the real charm is not the VAs. Rather, its the direction and the story that was beautifully told. Perhaps at some points its cliched and the movie was meant for kids (It came from Nicklodeon). But all that Gore Verbinski did was none of that. It felt quite matured even. The values and the morals to be taught to all of us, and not just kids. Kids wouldn't get bored because of its fast pace and people would be thrilled and cheering for Rango.

So from a passable script to a wonderful direction, don't give this a miss. The score plays out well and you would feel satisfied of the story. But it might be a shame if the movie wants to have a sequel later, since it is done just fine.

Kyo's Score: 8.5/10. A surprising fun time. It really was.

True Grit: Movie Review

I like the gunshot on the poster. It somehow looks cool and fitting to the poster. Its more like a throwback to the old days where Western posters would just be something so simple. And wanted posters are even worst. But regardless of the posters you see, True Grit is something you must see. Especially with its breathtaking shots.

The story begins with Mattie Ross (An amazing Hailee Steinfeld) handling the funeral of his father. Knowing the murderer, she goes to Marshall Rooster Cogburn (A well done Jeff Bridges) in search of Tom Chaney (Totally underutilized Josh Brolin). Along the way, they were met with a Texas Ranger of Lebouf (Matt Damon) and the three set to find a little girl's revenge.

Does the story sound basic to you? Cliche? Well, it could be since its a remake of the original True Grit also of the same story. But is it satisfying? Thanks to the Jeff and Hailee, hell yes. Hailee steals every scene available and you will marvel at her with the fact that she's so young and so matured for her role (She's 14 when she shot the movie).

The script and the shots were even something that I couldn't expect to be such a miracle either. Witty and beautiful, great combo. Score wasn't that mesmerizing or memorable sadly.

But the lowest point is seeing how Matt Damon came out as average and Josh Brolin was totally underutilized for his role. Its like he could have done something else better instead though.

I think I would have said as much as I need already. Stop my reading and go!

The King's Speech: Movie Review

Ah... What a great feeling to know The King's Speech is totally uncensored and totally given a chance to be aired in Malaysia. And even better to know it won the Oscar for Best Picture. That's certainly something. And nonetheless, the award is deserving. :D

Before he was King George 6th (A well deserved win for Colin Firth), he was the Duke of York. Before he even was the Duke of York, he was, a stammer. A very bad stammer. And imagine the fact that a King would stammer when giving his speech. Actually, I'm even surprised he has a wife (A very lovely Helena Bonham Carter). But due to this, he went into so much of professional help, but to no avail, until, came Lionel Logue (A wonderfully constructed Captain Barbossa and totally mesmerizing. Its Geoffrey Rush lah). Not only did Logue managed to make Bertie (King George's real name of Albert) to forget he had stammer problems, Logue was even knighted for his help to the King. This, is his journey to the speech he will deliver during the War against Hitler.

And what a wonderful journey it is. Delivered in such finesse (I still think Darren should win best Director though) and charm that makes you feel at home. The moment you see the Duke of York stammer you can understand that it felt so real, everyone was not confident of him at all. All thanks to the marvelous Colin Firth portraying how stammering is such an issue, not only to a king, but even to a common man.

The script is so witty that it is really on par with The Social Network. So both won no doubt. The cinematography is at times however, hit and miss. The reason being that most shots want you to know that the characters are thinking of something (Placed on far left or right), but some are ruined by over close up.

And I think that's the only flaw of the whole movie. Not only does it presents a witty script, it is accompanied by a simple yet truly lovely score that warms your heart. Everyone played a lovely role and it makes for a fitting place for every character to be. The questions and ethical issues posed are even wonderful enough that it gives you moments to think. And I just really love the script. You'll find yourself loving that cursing is a wonderful way of curing stammers. but i 'll leave the rest of the movie for your viewing.

Enough of my chitchat. If you hate movies with long talks, give this a miss. But if you want your heart to soar high, give it a go.

Black Swan: Movie Review

Creepy, Brutal, Honest, and most of all, REAL. This is Black Swan. Humanity's most depressing and most utterly real depiction of insanity and how far the human capacity can take you. And for such a dark, depressing, horrifyingly splendid story to be told by Natalie Portman under the helm of Darren Aronofsky (I thank you sir for giving me The Wrestler. Truly I do), this is not something you want to miss.

Nina Sayers is proficient in ballet. She works in a theatrical company that gave her a shot as the Swan Queen of a play called Swan Lake. But the story is a dark one. A princess was cursed into a White Swan and only true love's kiss can break the spell. However, her identical twin Black Swan seduces the prince who will never be with her anymore. And so, she kills herself. While that is the play, Nina's story is somewhat more, psychotic and truly gripping. This is the story of one who strives for perfection, and at the worst part, gets it.

I think Darren has really done, again, another fantastic job. Hot of the heels from the Wrestler and backed by an awesome Mickey Rourke, its a like a guy project that now turns into a girl project, and with such finesse displayed. Shots are amazing, creepy, haunting, and wonderful while the script is so simple that it does not need any convolution inside.

And I think Natalie Portman's performance has been spoken to death. But if you were to ask me, something does not feel right. Perhaps its a little feeling that I wanted more out of her (Like Nicole Kidman for Rabbit Hole instead) but this is still an Oscar worthy nominee performance. Truly something you do not want to miss.

Aside from how I wanted Natalie to do a lot more in this movie, it seems to be my only gripe. Much of Nina's relationship with her mother is not fully explained but if you were to take it plainly, there's much to expand. There's a lot more that could be told.

And now, to the SPOILERS PART.

Truly, this is how we all strive to be in our perfectionist mode. And it does not help when you have a psychotic tendency to meddle yourself in schizophrenia. But everything about the movie has been explained since the beginning: In order to be perfect, you must let yourself go. Which is why exactly it was correct for her to want the part of White and Black Swan together that she ended, by stabbing herself. Only when she realized who she had stabbed in the first place that she decided (yes, DECIDED) to bleed. The human brain is much powerful than you can expect for sure.

Now through the journey you will be greeted by how evil we all are. In order to gain something, we lose something. The best part was how Thomas displayed such a wonderful display of wanting Nina that bad but he was actually trying to make Nina lose herself. That was wonderful. Such trickery that the audience wants to know what have they been lied to. I hate to say it, but this is really where sex played such a huge role, that it worked. And I oppose having sex scenes in movies since they can always find another way to do this.

To me, I laughed because I understood. And that's creepy. Because how far we are willing to go for human perfection without even being called or labelled as evil to others is what all of us has inside. the idea has always been to acknowledge that we are our own worst enemy. And it is something neither of us are willing to change with.

Kyo's Score: 9.5/10. When bars are raised, so is the score. This would've been perfect if it was me reviewing a few years back though.

Marvel vs Capcom 3: PS3 Game Review

Above is the cover for the Japanese version, and its much better than the US version. Lucky for R3 buyers, they get double cover. So we won in that respect. For the game however, its sort of a hit and miss.

Marvel Clashes Again With Capcom. This was a long time coming since fans have waited for 10 years for this to come out. Was done as an April Fool Joke also before. So when last year it was announced, everyone in the fighting community shat bricks.

What's good is that this game has 2 modes, offline and online. Offline having a few extras like arcade which gives you an ending, depending on which character you use to beat Galactus as the final boss. Mission mode where you get to practice combos and learn some new combos even. Training mode is, as it is. And versus for offline multiplayer.

I'm not sure where to start, so lets go with the players first. The fighters are all... ok. Some feel overpowered but its not a feeling of broken. You have guys like Thor being slow but supremely powerful, or even Dante and Wesker as S tiered characters. 36 of them (4 needs to be unlocked) are available in disc, but I can't help but feel that its just too low, considering how Capcom is intending to release more DLCs of characters soon. I always believed that if you want to make a game right, give us the full thing.

But the main issue is how battles are fought. You have 6 buttons. Light, Medium, Strong attacks, Specials to launch enemies for air combos, and partner 1 and 2 for assist. And it is WAY too easy to execute combos. Frankly, even Tatsunoko Vs Capcom is much harder than this. So its very easy to pick up and play, but mastering it may be a different question. But that being said, after playing this for a while you just know that you can master it in a short duration of time. Gone are the days where executing combos would be magnificent (MvC. No. Not even MvC 2.).

Also, my other gripe is the fact that the health bar feels too low for medium. MvC2 used to be much much longer. yeah, you can change, but it still does not take away the fact that the fights with your fave characters ends in 15 seconds if you're that good in exploiting.

Graphics are ok if you ask me. Nothing mesmerizing though. Music... is a hit and miss. While I love remixes from the characters (Iron Man and Cap America still reigns), the character select song left much to be desired. I think Capcom forgot this is not Street Fighter 4, but rather is MvC. Those 2 are very different where this is all about good fun.

But its not saying that this game is not fun. it just feels, cheap. Thank God for the low price of RM 130 though. If not, I may be screaming.

Good to have story endings where MvC2 lacked. but hated the fact that I know this game can pack a lot more stuffings, but Capcom decides not to.

Online is a problem. Some games just feels horribly laggy. The best part though, is that if you're having a laggy connection, you can train your input settings in Training mode. Quite nifty, but wait til you get a disconnect and then you're screwed.

Verdict:

It is a fun game, nonetheless. but there is much left to be desired. I feel like i have the same problem when i played KOF XII on PS3. There's just so much to be desired to put it on par with other older fighting games. Long time fans may find a bit of good time to be had, but new players may turn them off.

Kyo's Score: 7.5/10. This is what you get when you don't release a full game when it should be. There's just too much left to that you know Capcom is going to steal your money.

Graphics: Nothing extraordinary.

Story: There's an ending for every character. So beat them to know their story.

Gameplay: Leaves much to be desired although you can still have a good time with the normal fighting.

Replay value: 360 missions to complete, online fights, constant update of character DLCs, if you love this then you'll be here for a long... time. :D

I am Number Four: Exclusive Movie Review

After winning free movie tickets (Credits to Afdzal for giving me the opt. :D) to this movie, I was quite excited. Buzzes in the country were illuminated (pun intended) because of the special mention of Malaysia. But to tell you the truth, the Malaysia part was not even shown, just written. But back to the movie, this is not that bad of an attempt nor effort. Its quite good, even if you have to ponder certain things in this soon to be franchise movie. I hope.

Four is an alien from another planet. And the bad guys are chasing after him. There's 9 of them on Earth, and the Mogs are chasing them one by one. Weirdly, in order. Why? Don't ask because I have no idea. So with 3 dead, Four is now the focus. As he runs from... where did he run again from to Paradise, Ohio, he's constantly being hunted. Protected by his guardian Henri (Cool Timothy Olyphant), witnessed by unlikely friends Sarah (Quinn from Glee) and Sam (Dad went missing because of aliens), they are now on the run hoping to beat the Mogs out of Earth and further save their lives.

The movie is quite promising, and its not that bad of an effort. nitty gritty details can make you feel that its trying so hard to be a detailed movie (MJ's song that he watches you is the ringtone from Henri's calls), it leaves a lot to be answered. So you'd feel bad if you watched the movie for a story. Just grasp for a simpler premise of what is being established and you should be fine.

Shots were so so. Nothing astounding. Seems also to be borrowed by Assassin's Creed (I know how to "blend in". Puts up hoodie. and Leap of Faith). And other teenager elements that is really hit and miss. Nice job on photography segment, but still does not make you feel connected to the movie.

Score is so so also. So not much to hope for.

What bugs me is that the script is weak, the action choice is hampering (Super powered people against plasma guns. The heck?), the actors and actresses were not that inspiring (Sarah did not even have any interest in Four, AT ALL), writers did Smallville (Superman elements entirely visible), and questions did not answer that much. There's just so much left to for you to wonder that if you really did go in with high hopes, you may be horribly disappointed.

So leave your brains at the door and hope for the sequel to come. Or at least sleep in the first few bits and only wake up until the last bits. Your call.

Black Eyed Peas' The Beginning: Music Album Review

Motivations to get this album is really about The Time (Dirty Bit). Reason is that it brings to you the song Time of My Life which will remain as an all time classic (also thanks to Dirty Dancing which I still want to watch. Patrick Swayze...). But a closer look into the album and you might find something you like.

Its start with The Time. And progresses to bring you some older tunes. Its like using older songs as base and remixed into a newer generation. So there's still a feel of the 80s and 70s in the tracks. And it progresses to make you go "Hey I know that tune!". To some, it may be a cheap technique and I would agree too. Because it feels that its not an original album. But looking at the title of the album, perhaps these songs are influences to BEP. And they're looking to pay tribute to such.

However, much can be said that its not that catchy as previous renditions of BEP. Nonetheless its fun and captures the BEP essence, but not as good as Elephunk (which is still the best). So if you're looking to chill with the album, you may just want to have the Time only.

Some personal recommendations of mine include: The Time (Dirty Bit), Love You Long Time, Someday, Do It Like This. That should be it.

Recomendation: If you love taking a stroll down memory lane in a Hipper beat, this might be the album for you. If not, save the classics as it is.

No Strings Attached: Movie Review

Friends with Benefits. That's a much milder term. Did you know such a thing happens also in Malaysia? Well, it does and it is a little creepier. Then again, blame the Malays for being rude and thinking free sex is a good idea. Both men and women. But going back to the movie, it does not really do a good job.

There's Emma (Natalie Portman) and Adam (Ashton Kutcher with a young chick. :P). Two friends. Who Adam has basically tried to finger and get in a date with for... I think its 14 years. Well, after his ex girlfriend is now with... his dad, he runs into a drunk rampage, goes of passing out in front of Emma and ends up sleeping with her. And that happened after he woke up. Which is awkward. So the two agree to be sex buddies without emotional attachment. But seriously, that does not happen. And so was its typical ending.

Much about the movie is all about exploring weird ideas. Like, playing 99 Problems from Jay-Z into Country music. Or Don't Cha in some El Mariachi Mexico trumpet style. Or carrots instead of flowers for a date. Shaved carrots. Yeah. I know.

The script is bland though. Music is awkward. haha. Shots is typical. But you ask yourself certain questions that you don't want to face. In the end, the idea is to ask yourself " Do you want to get hurt in a relationship or not?". And that's it.

Not good. But if you're watching for Ashton, then maybe its ok lah. Not that bad.

Mr. And Mrs. Incredible: Movie Review

Been a while since I wanted to do a review. But at least this one deserves it. Filled with so nice moments and a very lovely and compatible on screen chemistry between Louis Koo and Sandra Ng, this movie totally gave me a nice moment. Its like watching The Incredibles, but without the kids. But sadly, the ending was not really up to the momentum built since the beginning.

You have Aroma Woman (Sandra Ng, actually the direct translation is Red something, but beats me on why its called Aroma Woman) and Gazer Warrior (Louis Koo) retiring in a peaceful village 10 years ago. They were 2 of the best superheros protecting China from domestic threats (Gazer Warrior at least. Aroma Woman was hell bent on protecting women around the world. haha). Until the whole of China developed into 2 factions and wanted the both of them to fight to see who's the best. They instead escaped, got married and here they are. Happy. But when an official wants to hold a tournament to unify the sects and disciplines of Martial arts, they become suspicious of the event. The two are forced out of retirement to fight against a bigger threat.

Now what made this movie truly lovable, was actually Louis Koo and Sandra Ng. Two superheroes, but facing problems as humans. But make no mistake, they are happy with each other. And never have they fought one another. Both understanding and communicating. Perhaps it sounds too unrealistic for a couple to be as such, but you could really sense their happiness. At least that's what I saw. Sandra Ng was being her usual confident borderlining confident female character she always has and I can't imagine another woman being able to take her role. Louis Koo was charming as usual so there's no complaint with that.

The movie touches on many of the parts of the perfect married life. And how double teaming with your partners brings the best result. OF course there's conflict from everyone around you, but hey, as long you have your partner, all is good.

The other lovable thing were the parody of crimes done. Bank robbery with a modern steel vault in historic China. It makes you wonder who stole who's idea at times. Also, remember how you signal for Batman in Gotham? Well, in China, they do it with lanterns. Yup. Lanterns. The ones where you write wishes on. Even haggling for a house is very entertaining.

The script does a wonderful job to pull the two together. The shots were done nice. Occasional CG was used to make it feel like its a comic superhero thingy going on, but does its job.

The only hampering part was that the ending was a little of a letdown. Its typical, but it does not give a feeling and a sense of satisfaction seeing as the pieces that fall into the plot is a little uneven.

Its a weird choice of a movie for Valentine's, but I highly recommend it if you want to see how lovable the two can be. But that would be your only focus for the movie. Everything else, meh.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit: PS3 Review

If you think this is a reboot of the classic hot pursuit released in the old days, then you would be almost right. But this is actually a full reboot of the NFS series. After so many disappointing sequels (except for Shift, though by that time, people were really down and out), EA knew they need to do something, and so Criterion Games was called and now we get this. Thankfully, this is truly a wonderful experience!

Lets start with the game. There is no story. But don't get disappointed since you don't really need one. You can choose to be a Racer or a Cop, each progressing through levels, unlocking more races, cars, equipment, leveling up equipments until you get to rank 20. And that's about it. What makes this fun is the sheer collection of supremely awesome cars you can only imagine of owning. Lambos, Maserati's, Paganis, McLaren and so many more grace the title with pure awesomeness. Some people may complaint of not having Ferrari's and even Toyota in the game, but its still fine really.

If you're a racer, you can partake in race events or preview events of hot cars blazing through tracks in a time trial thingy. There will also be events where you need to dodge cops and win the race. That's a little bit more trickier, but truly very fun.

As a cop, you can also partake in preview events, go on a one on one high speed car chase (You always loved watching it, now go do it!), or take down multiple racers at any given time.

And then there's multiplayer. Bring your race event, one on one (called Interceptor) or Hot Pursuit events into the foray. The connection can be good, but best played close with everyone around your area. You may get jumping or blinking cars if you do choose to play with people further than you.

And then, there's Autolog.

have you ever noticed how Leaderboards are always so hard to tackle? Well, why no tackle one among your friends? The best part here is that Autolog even tells you if you're beaten by one of your friends. keep track of your time, post on the Wall (Somewhat like a Wall on facebook) and even add your friends who are playing the game. Autolog makes this game so addictive that it is so amazing to even be playing it with your friends. the downside is that, if you don't have friends, you won't have people to fight with. But still, Autolog is so central to the experience that nothing else matters.

I could use a better soundtrack, since I only like 2 songs in the whole game. The graphics are neat and it really feels great to be racing in the outdoors. No modern shit coming around you, and that's really fine. The roads were meant to be trashed anyways.

Closing Comments

If you have always loved racers and don't spending some money over Gt5, get this. It will be so worth your time because its so damn fun.

Graphics: Neat and crisp. there are some jaggies, but I can live with that.

Story: None. But who cares.

Gameplay: Just enough variety to keep you satisfied.

Replay value: Autolog will keep your blood boiling and make sure that you want to beat your friend, no matter how many times you have to take.

Buried: Movie Review

Since I like using other posters, I used this instead. And WOW. What a wonderful experience for me. Very haunting too. Since this movie can go 2 ways (you either love it or hate it), I suggest that if you don't want to see a guy stuck in a coffin for 94 minutes and just that only, don't watch it. But if you want to see how does it feel to be stuck in a coffin for that long of a time, read on.

Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) is an American truck driver working in Iraq. He and his crew was ambushed by Iraqis and now, he's stuck 6 feet, or maybe even lower under and he has to cough up 5 million dollars as ransom so that he can escape. But from the time that he has (Movie time began at 6.05PM) to 9PM to pay up, can he survive?

The director was really having fun with the movie and its audience. Ryan probably felt it was a very good script and we all have to agree. Being stuck in a coffin for 94 minutes is no joke. I think its hard. But frankly, I somehow felt that Ryan did not fully deliver his A Game. Somehow, something was a miss. But I couldn't pinpoint it.

The script was also a genius. Truly awesome. Reason being you can see how they bring in so many issues being spoken off that truly makes the movie so believable that it goes higher with each note possible. The situation became so tensed that it really drives you at the edge of your seat wondering how Paul would make it out alive, or not.

I left the cinema hall with this very closed feeling. Like my whole mind was in a coffin. The dark theatre hall gave me a very horrible glimpse of how it feels to be really stuck in that coffin and to place yourself there. I was so quiet that i was holding the bar of a railing at The Curve after I left the movie. Got scolded by my GF but its alright, she didn't know what I went through. It all felt real. It was creepy.

I have to give kudos to the camera work. Very well done. All the while the movie can feel so closed. heck, it could even just be in a small studio and it would've been cool enough. The time lapse also was very accurate in the beginning. But somehow, it was not towards the end of the movie. (The time began at 6.05Pm to 6.35PM and a little bit. It did make up 30 minutes of the time. And then he woke up after sleeping a bit around 7PM. And then 8.15PM onwards). These little details were really awesome.

And the ending, well, thank God it wasn't typical, but definitely left a WTF moment for the hall I was in. Even the last line in the whole film shows that the director was really having fun with its audience. Its really a piece of work.

Sadly, the movie would only work once. That's it. Its not enough for repeated viewings. Once you know what happens, you're ok already. Perhaps one of the weakest points, but still shouldn't stop you from doing all of this.

Kyo's Score: 9/10. One of the best movies I had this year left feeling creeped out and smiling a little bit once it ended. I really had good fun. Even if it took a lot out of me to get out of that spooky feeling. hehe.

The Other Guys: Movie Review

Ever wondered why you were always the sidekick and never the hero? (Life situation applies entirely) Well, meet the other guys. That's you right there jumping with guns toting at shooting at bad guys. Well, before this you always had to sit on a desk doing paperwork. Feels shitty don't it? Well, that's also the movie in some ways. How it started was so nice that it was badly done in the end.

The Other Guys comprise of Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg. WOOT!). 1 loves his desk pushing papers and developing Iphone apps (Faceback. Seriously. Cool) and the other, well, a disgraced detective who shot some baseball players knee and cost him his job. Owh, and he learned dancing, sarcastically to mock people. And he's fantastic at it too. That's a laugh out loud riot.

The story comes when 2 of the best police officers took a leap of faith into their deaths. IDIOTS. Well, that's Samuel L Jackson and Dwayne Johnson right there. When they died, the other guys gotta get up. So, they tried, and ended up uncovering something much bigger than they did expect.

What I loved about this movie? Its jokes are nice. (Wooden gun!) Michael Keaton was AWESOME, then again as always. And having Dwayne and Sam at the beginning was really cool and fun to watch. Marky Mark may have found his muse as a tough guy in a comedy. No kidding, ever since Date Night he was still in awesome mode. I don't know how the Fighter is going to look like but hey who knows?

However... the real problem was how sour the editing was done. Seriously, it was so horrible that it did not work well in so many ways. You get high moments, and then uber low. It was utter rubbish. It completely marred the whole movie experience. I'm gonna agree with another that Hot Fuzz would be the best choice.

So if you still wanna watch it, go for the early part, leave in the half way. The Good GUys win. Done. No need to spend more time on this.

Devil: Movie Review

As a Muslim, I believe in the existence of many things. Satan, Jin, Ghosts, and so on of other worldly things. So I'm not surprised with the movie Devil really. The Devil can be anything or anyone. And the Devil will always be there to mislead. So when it comes to this movie, why the Devil choose an elevator to trap 5 strangers and execute them one at a time?

The story is basically the Devil taking 5 wretched souls to hell. The best part, among the 5, one of them is the Devil itself. Can you trust the person next to you then?

When it comes to the story, i would M Night deserves a "boleh tahan lah" rating. Its quite an old story of perhaps good vs evil, and why mankind should also do good and abstain from evil. But I can't help but feel that all this feels a little too cheesy. but perhaps that's just me. Though, that's not really my main gripe considering how M Night has been pure shit the past few movies.

My main gripe however was the dialogue. The script all felt cheesy. Its not charming in its own entirety. In fact, the only time I remembered the dialogue was fantastic was when the Devil revealed itself as... one of the members in the lift. I won't tell you who, but I love the quote that the Devil said. In fact, the Devil would probably be the only smartest being in the whole movie. Everyone else including the detective didn't do much to convince that everyone is to be judged.

So, for an average story and bad scripting issues, I can give this a pass. I have hated horror movies for quite a while now. But this does feel like the same ranks as other crappy Malay Horror movies I've seen (Then again, like there was any good Malay horror film made so far.).

Kyo's Score: 5/10. Honestly, I left the theatre just asking forgiveness from Allah for all that I did. For only He can forgive for all my sins.

When the PS3 gets Hacked: Kyo's View

Word buzzing around the Internet is that some fellows from OzModChips were successful on hacking the PS3. What does this actually mean?

Well, for starter games can now be backed up. That's the polite term. The harsher terms, games can also be downloaded and pirated. Good for those who want to back up their games (although to be frank, I haven't seen my BDs spoilt so far and still see no reason why I should back it up since I believe in it), but maybe bad for developers who built games just to get ripped off by gamers who are cheap. And we know how the whole world is cheap.

Good also that it'll lead to homebrew developments. Or even cheats. I'm not sure how, but it sounds and looks like it should work. To a good advantage. Maybe Sony should have done something like Apple and Google by providing a market for micro apps. Who knows eh?

What do I think from all this? Personally, after telling myself to quit piracy for so long, I couldn't be bothered. I don't have a problem on where I can get my original games and I don't mind shelling the extra cash to get it. I live in a 2 room house with my parents and sister, so I'm nowhere near rich. And I drive a bike to work, that tells you how cheap I am.

But I stand by being responsible. This is my effort on being a civilized man who doesn't need to resort to crime like what I have done before. Its a shameful thing, but i'll leave that as memories.

So, regardless of what happens, this is nowhere going to affect me. Besides, my Yakuza 4 is coming anyways. Nowhere near fazed. :P

Scott Pilgrim's Precious Life: Graphic Novel Review

For a very long time I have not graced comics or even graphic novels (Graphic novels being never, until Joker and The Killing Joke). But that did change this year, when I started with Joker and The Killing Joke (thanks syefah for the present) and now, its Scott Pilgrim. And I must say, where have I been the past few years to not even notice this?

Scott Pilgrim is a Canadian slacker. Plays in a band, has just started dating a highschool girl (Scott is 23 btw), and is enjoying his life. Until, a particular lady has been using his dreams to travel and make deliveries for Amazon Canada. Immediately, he became obsessed, and even worst, the girl is real, and her name is Ramona Flowers. Insisting to go on a date, he orders something and baits her on a date, which she accepts and he had a blast. Well, until, Matthew Patel, the first of Ramona's League of Evil Exes shows up. Now, in order to date Ramona, Scott must defeat Ramona's 7 evil exes. The thing is, did he manage with the first one?

The comic got a Harvey award (one of the best acclaimed for comics and graphic novels) and is almost ready to be screened in movie theaters this week. Malaysians definitely have to wait a little longer to get it (November, Dammit). I took notice of this movie and went gaga, because this is not your typical story, this is an action-comedy-romance-musical (As Edgar Wright puts it) stuffed all in one, and it really works.

Scott is in someways, very annoying and cocky. However, the first volume of 6 gives you a slight hint of how he is and what he's gone through. The first few pages would make you feel you loathe him, but you want to stick around to find out what really happened to his life, and even Ramona's (which Scott conveniently discloses in the book that it'll be explained in the proceeding volumes, way to go on breaking the fourth wall).

The other characters also work to help Scott tell his story. You've got his gay roommate Wallace (which he conveniently sleeps on the same bed with him), and then Ramona (who I actually imagined did sound a little stale like her movie counterpart) with her rollerblades going across Toronto (which the roads are heavily snowed, you figure it out), his part of the band (Kim Pine being a double standard character) and even his girlfriend Knives Chau (who's Chinese mother speaks like a real Chinese. And that's a riot). They all work very well in his life.

When it comes to plot, this book has just the right pacing and timing for it. I didn't feel like putting the book down even though I just came through the closing chapter. And the humor bits, are very fun and more conveniently suited to the gaming generation (which happens to be a little weakspot which i'll get later). Heck, Bryan even gave its readers a chance to play a song from Sex Bob-Omb, Stephen Stills' band (which Scott is the bassist). heck, the lyrics are even funny as hell.

The art style feels like a crossover of Japanese manga and American drawings. And you get... Somewhere in the middle. Its nothing to shout about, but the style does feel quirky, which probably sets the right tone for me.

The weaker part, audiences may not really know the jokes and references the book is trying to make. Well, maybe not all of it since it does include some clever jokes that hit on lots of wonderfully scripted parts. The version I had was probably a bad print (the pages were a little disoriented), so you may wanna be careful.

At Rm 40.90 (Borders and Kinokuniya, MPH is RM 45.90), the length of the book is really nice. Its probably just the right amount of time, and you may want to pick up a 2nd reading once you're done running through the whole book. Available in 6 volumes, this is the start of something lovely and I don't think you'd regret getting it. Regardless if you're videogame proficient or not, don't miss out and do check out the movie trailers of Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Its a total blast.

Batman: City of Scars: Fanmade Film Review

Dear All,

GO WATCH BATMAN: CITY OF SCARS. Its worth it. :P

To begin, go over to Dailymotion.com. Over there, go ahead and find Batman: City of Scars and you will find a 35 minute video showing the fanmade film. And seriously, it is such a treat.

The story goes with Joker escaping from Arkham once more. This time, he successfully killed the parents of another child, leaving him orphaned. Bruce feeling that similar pain confronts and tracks him once more, and to question himself what was he become.

Its amazing to know that this is from a fanmade film. It trumps the sequels that was during the Clooney era, stands on par with Kilmer and Keaton, and is so close to Nolan's effort. Its truly outstanding. heck, even the gadgets make the detective look damn rich. And that was actually fun (I want the Batpod!)

The script feels fresh and we're mostly treated to a monologue of Batman questioning himself (Not gonna spoil anything). The score is lovely and quite haunting at times. While the shots may be its weakest point sadly. It does feel messy a little but perhaps it works to show the grit of Gotham.

The cast did a lovely job. Batman fits (even better than Bale's) and the Joker is nice (Sorry, Heath is still the best in my book when it comes to mischief and haunting). The rest of the case is also good where you have Harley Quinn, The Ventriloquist joining the lovely ensemble.

heck, I was even blown away by the stunt and fight scenes. It was really fun to watch.

But alas, the real point to bring out is how the story really does, and it fits well. It makes us question yet the answer lies with Batman himself.

Overall, i'd recommend 35 minutes of your time for this film. It is truly spectacular and I give kudos to the guys who did this. Congratz, you have made Bob Kane, and his legion of fans proud. :D

Kyo's score: 8/10. Truly a wonderful effort. If you're interested with other fan made stuff, go to youtube and find the Joker interrogation scene. The one with 13 million views. You'll know why. :P

Salt: Movie Review

When it comes to food, I like them less salty than the normal. Most of the time I would be eating saltless food or just a little bit. But this movie, has proven to me that it is a little too salty to my liking (That means, its a bad thing to me).

Evelyn Salt (Jolie) is a CIA agent. When a Russian Spy defects and unveils that Salt apparently is a secret agent working for Russia, she is being hunted down. Knowing that she is innocent, she goes out on a run to clear her name. But something else is brewing, something much bigger than Salt's worth as an agent.

I hate movies that gives me the ending after 20 minutes of watching it. This is that movie. Because of that, I tried to sit down and see if there's anything else worth watching. Sadly, there's not much.

So obviously the plot was poorly conveyed and the editing was poorly done (you can throw away some scenes but NO... you had to put them in). The shots, worst. I DON'T NEED CLOSEUPS. Seriously shots were horrendous.

Script gets cheesy and dull. But scores were good though. But not enough.

And about Jolie, yeah, she's great in this one. Hands down for that. But I think i blame the script and the director for making me guess what the hell is Salt trying to do actually. We don't even know what emotion she's feeling (COME ON!).

To my book, its a weak movie and its probably one of the weaker offerings this year. Now to see how Last Airbender bombs the cinemas.

Inception: Movie Review

When a movie establishes a set of rules, it will strictly follow those rules to the end. What Inception does to its viewers is throw so much of the rules that you actually need to bring in your brain to the cinemas to truly enjoy this movie. This isn't The A-Team (which I still feel biased and love that more over this. :P), and this might just be the beginning of a bigger sensation then what the current trend is doing, discussing about a movie that would probably leave a big impact in our lives (whether you notice it or not). To sum things up, go watch it and find out. But if you're intrigued to find out my gripes about the movie, read on.

Dom Cobb (You-jump-I-jump-man) is an extractor who excels at stealing ideas within your subconscious through dreams. After a nasty string of events, he was forced to go on the run and longs to return home to his kids. His chance props up when Saito (Ken Watanabe) offers him a chance of salvation, but only through inception. Inception is the act of implanting an idea within a person's mind, that would lead him to believe that it is his own. It would stay with the person because the act will be done subconsciously (and I have had experiences that your dreams and subconscious can be VERY motivating). Assembling a team of experts, they travel deep within the mind of Robert Fischer Jr. (Cillian Murphy) to do the act. But, for a concept that has never been existed before, would it be possible?

There's no doubt the cast is fantastic. And kudos to Joseph Gordon Levitt, Tom Hardy (Major kudos from me), Ken Watanabe (Damn, his English is really excellent, no where near powderful) and even Cillian Murphy (who I believe gets more screen time). Leo is no doubt at his prime, which i don't need to mention anyway (And for those of you who still think he's the same guy from Titanic, go watch Blood Diamond and The Departed. You don't get nominated for two movies at the same time in the same year).

Perhaps the main star of the movie is the story, its director and its editor. The director did a great job (as Nolan has always done ever since Memento) and the editing for this movie is also fantastic (so much of weaving that it all fits perfectly).

The movie may riddle you to ask what really happened and what's going on (maybe a little spoiler there. :p) but as it is the star, I won't spoil much over here. Just that a good concentration and observation may answer most of the question that will pop up.

So, my gripes? lets begin with action. While you have the fantastic zero gravity action sequence (Kudos JGL for a very good performance and knowing where to go to make things look so seamless), the rest of it felt ho hum. But however, i do begin to understand this part. You see, we as humans would be limited to certain thoughts and limitations (mere human beings would be practical, not imaginative). Hence in the dreamworld, we're treated with some sort of mild mannered action sequences that doesn't look bombastic or innovative (only exception was Zero Gravity).

There was also a moment that I felt was a little too much to explain. It could have been done simpler (because I was wondering how much time has passed, and my answer was "not much"). It was only in the early sequences that it suffered this problem.

Putting all that aside, I still believe this is a wonderful movie that I would recommend for all to see. Its not too taxing (If you want something that really is taxing, go for Insomnia and Memento. Those are worse) but you need to open yourself up to the concept and listen carefully.

Owh, as for the ending, if you ask me, it was better that way. Why? Well, go watch it then you'll know. :P

Kyo's point: 9 out of 10. Minus 1 due to ho hum action sequences and draggy feeling at the first. And lucky you JGL. Hope you get that Riddler part (Though, Rainn Wilson don't look so bad either.)

Toy Story 3: Movie Review

If only Thin Lizzy could change their song title to Toys are Back in Town, then this would have been perfect. But the movie itself is a wonderful, and perhaps dark, journey into understanding how we should never forget those that we hold dearly.

Andy, the owner of the story, is all grown up. And he's about to leave college soon. Like most growing teens, we'd end up forgetting about the toys that we grew up with. We threw them out, put them in the store, attic, wherever. As the toys were headed to the Attic, except Woody (Tom Hanks), all of them were mistakenly taken out and headed to Sunnyside, a day care centre for kids. Greeted by Lots-o-Huggin Bear and Ken (Michael Keaton, NO KIDDING), all was fine and dandy until they were manhandled roughly. Now, every toy of Andy's vow to get themselves and Woody back to Andy and the Attic before he leaves for college.

I grew up with the first 2 movies and it was really fun. I remembered first the most (after watching it like, 20 times, through illegal means that I'm not proud of now) and the 2nd was forgettable. But now, this one marks as even more memorable due to its dark tone in certain parts of the story.

The plot pacing was, ok frankly. It wasn't as engaging as the other movies, but still ok. The animation was wonderful, the sound was too. Voice cast, as usual fantastic. Props to Michael Keaton, seriously, for being Ken.

Gripes with the movie? I cried like a baby. I said it. But its because you can feel the attachment when the ending comes. I can't spoil it here, but if you did grow up with the toys, it might leave you bawling. I have never cried in a movie hall before, and this broke my record.

But that's not just the only memorable scene. The whole movie, in its covers, actually asks us about how we treat others. For the adults, we could ask what have we done in our lives and what have we left behind (These sort of emotions is what Pixar is best at. Dependency was in Wall-E, Up was about imaginations). For the kids, they are in for a treat as the ending, will be a happy one. But they will be scared in certain scenes when everyone would question the fate of the toys.

Its rare to get movies that makes you question yourself about a whole lot in life. We did have Yasmin Ahmad in the past to do so, and Muallaf will go down probably as an underrated movie that many may not understand the questions. But lets hope that Pixar continues on and on with their movies and the questions that they have given to us. This movie is such a delight that you may want to watch it again and again.

Kyo's score: 10/10. I still love The A-Team more because I'm biased about that. :P

Sony E3 2010 Press Conference: Kyo's View

I slept during this, but managed to read all about it. And thank God Sony has good things in store for everyone!

Starting the conference was...3D for the PS3! And yeah, the whole auditorium saw KZ3 in 3D, but sadly not everyone else outside. But hey, its ok. Some games like Super Stardust HD and Wipeout will be available in 3D, and that was just the start of things.

Very excited on how Sly Cooper's Collection will be available in 3D for the PS3. Man, 3 games in 1, please tell us it'll be cheap...

And then, Playstation Move. Not so impressive if you ask me, but more details need to be shown. Good thing is, you don't see Move copying what Nintendo has and is focusing on new titles (unlike the jackass who did).

Finally, there's Kevin Butler. LONG LIVE KEVIN BUTLER!!! (The actor really. Thank you God for giving Sony some sense to bring in the big man who gave us all a character that we could laugh and love).

We did get a peek at Medal of Honor, which looked nice. And then, Sony pulled off the shocking thing, which was Portal 2. Well, the guy hates the PS3, but I guess he got spiritual enlightenment. :P

So, 3 conferences from the 3 giants are out. My verdict? The clear winners were Sony and Nintendo. Both at a tie. The reason, they both presented new technology for the masses (3D PS3 games, and movies later, 3DS) and some very great looking games (3DS wins more on this because the support will be immense. 3D FF7 anyone? :P) Well, there's next year Microsoft. Our money's on Move and 3DS. Not Kinect. Sorry.

Nintendo's E3 2010 Press Conference: Kyo's View

WOW. What a show. Staying up til 1.30am was great! Because this year, Nintendo did not disappoint at all!

Opening the show we have The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, with Motion Plus support. Asking yourselves to hold a nunchunk like a real shield is a nice tough, but seeing your sword go with you is even better.

And the momentum continued. Totally surprised with Goldeneye 007, Kirby's Epic Yarn (which is not only cute but very creative), Donkey Kong Country Return (Side scroll me in 3D) and Golden Sun Dark Dawn just to name a few (DID YOU SEE THAT BATTLE SEQUENCE???).

And then, there's the 3DS.

I urge you not to continue reading my blog and go to e3.nintendo.com. It will explain the console better. I'm outta here to save money for a 3DS!

Microsoft's E3 Press Con 2010: Kyo's View

My my. 2009 was great for Microsoft in terms of the press con battle. You've got the Beatles coming over, you got previews of nice games, and you've got Hideo Kojima coming in to preview MGS Rising.

How was 2010?

BAD.

Yes, I got my COD Black Ops. Gameplay was nice. Yes I have my GEoW 3, which was also great. Yes I've got MGS Rising's teaser with a little bit of gameplay and Raiden sucking juice from some robot's spine. Yes I've got Halo Reach and Fable 3 making appearances.

And yes I have Xbox Kinect and the redigned 360 hardware.

That's it. And to top off last year's performance, they gave away free 360s. And yes, audiences love free stuff.

So Microsoft leveraged highly on Core games first, and then the casual side of games. Now, Microsoft, i need you to be more innovative rather than giving me rip offs of other consoles. Dance Central? If you have more hits than Just Dance then bring it. Kinect Sports? Urgh, why? Kinectimals? Sigh...

Being in a Ferrari, yeah that sounds like a fresh take. So, GT5? When are you going to show what's in a Ferrari then?

I was really hoping for new announcements. Or at least surprises. But, no. Now, lets hope that the other press cons can deliver. Beginning with, NINTENDO.

The Karate Kid: Movie Review

When Pat Morita taught audiences how to "Wax on, Wax Off", people started guessing what other things you can do in daily life that is similar to karate. Well, why not try picking up a jacket instead? Its easier, and becomes the new lesson for the new remake of the Karate Kid.

The plot is similar to the first movie, but different cast and setting. There's Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) who moves to another country (contrary to another city in the original), and gets bullied by trying to make friends with another girl. When things get worst, the maintenance man, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) comes to the rescue, with Dre having to agree to enter a tournament to beat the bully.

One of the issues audiences had was the name of the movie. Most would have complained that it should have been the Kung Fu Kid. But to be frank, who would have known the Kung Fu Kid, rather than the Karate Kid? Its better for the production to have leveraged on the old name, since it got people talking. haha.

The plot, is similar until the end. But the shots the movie was filmed at, FANTASTIC. The crew should cherish the fact they got to shoot this at the Great Wall. That one needs you to pull off a whole lot of strings just to be up there. Location and set pieces who carefully chosen and they look great.

But to me, that was the only good part from the movie. Everything else, is well, a 21st century remake. And that's about it. It does get draggy in the first part (Shocked to learn it was for 2 hours and 20 minutes), but works out the pacing at the end. I do however recommend you watching this movie if you want that nostalgia feeling. Because in this movie, everything ends happily ever after. And yeah, the action is nice too.

Kyo says: 7 out of 10. Mainly for the action and the stunt teams.

The A-Team : Movie Review

You gotta love it when a plan comes together. Of course this coming from a fan who has chased the series since he was still in Primary (Thank you TV2 for the fond memories of reruns), you'd be thinking I'll be biased. Well, on a biased point, GO WATCH THE MOVIE. For an unbiased one, read below.

The A-Team, an elite crack commando unit escaped from a maximum security prison for a crime they didn't commit. The best part, is that Joe Carnahan (director) decided to change certain settings. It used to be Vietnam War vets. Now they are just war vets currently in Iraq. And yes, they were framed and sent to prison. Escaping it, now they want payback and clean records. And yes, it definitely gets better from there.

It is truly nonstop action from start to finish, with little joke fillers (That will crack you wide open) to add in the middle of the actions scenes. The rush is so great that when you decide to look at your watch you realize its almost over, and you'll hate that, because the movie leaves you begging for more.

While the plot is, how shall I put it, simple? Yet you might get frustrated on the abundance of loopholes on how efficient Hannibal (Liam Neeson) can be (This however, was explained in the prison scene in the early of the show). But I can think that you might not care on how efficient Hannibal might be. You just know and love it when a grand scheme of plans come together.

The shots taken however, were a little messy sadly. It could have been clearer. The sound and effects, FANTASTICO! But I would say that special effects feels a little overly used in this movie. Action scenes, well, if you've watched Smokin' Aces, expect that to be 5 times crazier.

Now comes the characters, while everyone was great (be reminded, never to piss off an MMA fighter), I believe Sharlto Copley stood out the most as Howling Mad Murdoch. From the moment you see him at the Psych hospital til the very end, you will love him. Bradley Cooper works very well as Faceman, remaining very faithful to the original. Liam Neeson was always fantastic to watch with. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, hats off to you on being a milder BA. But that's alright.

If you think the trailer gave you everything to watch about The A-Team, boy you would be DAMN WRONG. Go watch it, because I was proven wrong. I thought I had the story nailed down to me after watching the trailer 14 times (i counted), but DAMN!

Now, all good praises however do come to an end. There is that abundance of loopholes (Maybe it was just to be faithful to the series in someway), messy scenes, this being not-your-daddy's-A-Team (expect mild language and sexual scenes), and uninteresting bad guys that you would be confused to like or hate. So in some ways, you won't this perfect.

All in all, if you're a fan, you'll love it! If you're an action movie goer, you'll love it too. But if you're looking for a deep story, sorry, you would get dissapointed.

Brutal Legend AfterThoughts

There are 3 things that I could consider regarding Brutal Legend after it has been released already. Tim Schaffer would know that his game would sell really well at the 360, but I'd want this on the PS3 also. So, do consider lad.

1. A jukebox option dang it.

Ok, so I invested USD 60 on this game, or lesser, depending on which region you bought it from. But if there's one thing a heavy metal game could use, is a frigging jukebox option. The menu start up is wonderful, even if you can see that occasional slight pause of transition from the vinyl cover. But I really wished there was a jukebox option where I could listen to all 100 songs from the game. I mean, why not? It did rock with the game flow, but why not with just itself? Future patch please... Would love to listen to all of them without having to play the game also. :P

2. An OST?

This is no brainer. If there's no jukebox, release every single song on an OST. This is one heck of a complilation, so EA, use your muscles. You can do this!

3. A jump button.

Ok, this one can't be changed anymore. But the opening scene actually gave an idea that Eddie could jump (Saving that idiot basisst I believe) and it would have made things a little more logical too. but, I guess the logic here is that this isn't really a game, but a fantastic story telling that tries to look as normal as possible (Guitars spouting lightning, Cars running without fuel). Its not a big thing, but it would be more fun.

And I must say, this as a biased opinion also, this is Game of the Month for me. I know, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves takes the cake. But put in 100 metal songs in a game, and I'm sold. :P Have a happy winter gaming season lads, we shall all be broke very very soon. :P

(500) Days of Summer: Movie Review

What a wonderful movie. That word seems to be coming out of my mouth often now. hehe. And its great. It really is a wonderful movie about love. Sadly, I wished I had the chance to also watch Paper Heart, but that's not possible. And this one is just great. :D

Tom Hasden (Joseph Gordon Levitt) is an architect major working in a greeting card company. He fell in love with Summer (hence the title of the movie, played by Zooey Deschanel), a secretary who does not understand what love means. He chased her, he got her, and then she dumps him out of the blue, and he's recuperating from the lost. What happens from there is for you to watch for I won't spoil the story.

The art style is terrific. The shots were simple and nothing was overblown in use. Script was also very simple, yet touches the reality that we are in. Everything except the art is portrayed so simple that everything clicks and works. Good job Marc Webb, you really did succeed here with your debut.

And to be frank, this is not a love movie. It is definitely a movie about love. And it is very wonderfully portrayed as one. The numbers were used to signify the day that Tom was in. The art and graphic used to represent the days also shows where Tom is and what is his current situation in the relationship. And the idea that uses multiple frames is also interesting.

I seriously recommend this to anyone. It is wonderful, fun, fine, and helps show the struggles of recuperating from a lost love. The ending should be shared, is also not a typical one. No, he does not get Summer, and you should watch why. The explanations about love may be hard to understand, but is very simply portrayed. This is definitely worth the money you can spend. The movie is also available at TGV Sunway Pyramid until 14 October only. So make it your top priority to watch it quick! :D

Up: Movie Review

When Ellie wrote to Carl thanking him for the greatest adventure in life that he has given her, I felt my heart telling me this subtle sentence: "Give your wife that same pleasure too." And so I learned something new today. And be happy, that this is such a wonderful movie for grown ups and children alike. More so for the adults, and I'll tell you why.

Carl Fredrickson is being evicted. He now lives alone and always have yearned for an adventure with his wife, until she was taken a little too early from him. With the eviction notice coming in, he pumped up so many ballons and set off on an adventure of his dreams to South America. However, Russell, a boy scout had mistakenly tagged along and now their on an adventure. Wonderful occurences go by and I'll let you catch the rest. :P

The shots were simple and the script was witty. The score used is also catchy, even in the various remixes of the same score. And the cast is just lovable.

But to be frank, that's not the main point here. The main is that spirit that the characters show to us. How a little boy learns about life and grows a little older to a teen, and an old man remembering what he was before. Has that happen to any of u? have you forgotten what you set out to do when you were small, but had bogged it out of your head because you were too busy working and trying to just live for the next day? Trust me, it happens a lot to a whole lot of people. And this movie, serves as that perfect reminder for you to remember back what you should do. Not when your old. But right now.

On my view, i still prefer Wall-E than Up, because I know what life has to offer to everyone and you should grasp it as much as you can. Wall-E became a great romantic movie and I am still mesmerized by the dance scene. This movie gave me the short moment that chronicled the life of Carl and Ellie where they were happy together. These 2 moments of the respectives movies are wonderful and is actually more than enough reason for you to be in the film, besides the already wonderful story itself. So go on, get it while you still can. I can assure you will have a wonderful time... :)

Brisbane's Public Transportation System: General Review

WOW. Yes. That's a big emphasis over there on a TERRIFIC public transport system. It is just so amazing. And I'll tell you why.

The minute I arrived in Brisbane I had to take a bus to West End. In the bus, there were 2 options, 1 was to use the Go Card, something like Touch n Go in Malaysia and 2 was the standard coin affair. 90% of the passengers used Go Cards most of the time. And my Goodness the frequency of the busses is just heavenly. And you can really get to anywhere anytime you want to.

The idea that the busses operate in zones are actually better than how RapidKL does their own service. While they have the Utama Line, Tempatan Line, the idea of the busses in Brisbane is that fares are charged by zone. When you're in 1 zone, the fare is less than 1 dollar. When you add another zone, you'll have to add a few more cents for that. The best part, in the 5 zones it covers, you can really get to anywhere easily by switching busses and making sure that if its the same zone, you're just travelling at cheap.

The trains at Brisbane are also splendid. You can get from Brisbane city center to Harbor town or even Movie World in an hour. And the rate? 5 dollars. Cheap. Really. Its like taking a trip from KL to Melaka, but faster and definitely cheaper. Heck, at the train stations, you can even top up your Go Card there. This is something that RapidKL should really consider.

The taxis are also great. While there are older type of car models used as taxis, some opt for more newer models like a Camry, and all at good fares. My trip back to Malaysia I was already in a Camry. And it was splendid. In case the guy is lost, he can actually navigate his way around the city with his GPS. Very nifty.

So busses are frequent, and did I mention the busses also follow a tight schedule? Well they do. Frequency can range from 10 minutes to even as less as 5. That's just short. And you can always refer to the busses arriving on time based on that schedule. The system really took its time to calculate even to the minor of bus stop distances. Cool!

Now, if you've got an Iphone, or some phone that can surf the web, don't hesitate to use to it to find your way around the city employing the best method possible. Go to their website and by simply searching from where to where you would like to go, and the web will give you a few suggestions on the best route possible in the shortest time. Now that's efficiency.

Bored of either trains or busses? Take a ferry. Yup, even ferry's are available, considering the river is quite wide and long. It was not only my first ferry trip, but my first boat ride too on water. And again, I didn't like when it became bumpy. haha.

There might be 1 slight problem. If you miss the bus, you missed it. If they've closed the door, that's it. but I understand the implementation. And its good too to be honest. So, this slight hinderment is nothing really.

The fact that busses have their own tunnels, routes, lanes, makes this public transport system super heavenly. And the busses available at that town keeps on increasing. I think there's more than 1000 operating every day in the city. Malaysia should really take a tour down under and learn from one of the best public transport system I've ever come acrossed. Seriously, its the best thing for me to see that I know there's no jams at all, in a frigging city. Malaysia, learn very very well. Smart Tunnel is a good concept and is implemented nicely, now make 1 for busses. Get to it!

King Of Fighters XII: Exclusive Arcade Review

One of the most loved fighting game franchises has been in the arcades for quite a while already, but if the rumors are correct, it has graced in Malaysia at Penang. KL however, are left out. However again, I had my exclusive chance to completely play the whole arcade game and experience what has been a wait for just too long since XI came out. Being apart of my Australian review, this is going to be a purely unbiased review (As I am a VERY HUGE fan of KOF ever since 95) that I hope would benefit the people who have also been waiting for this game in anticipation of the console version. Here goes!

As I've detailed many times in my previous posts, the system has been given a revamp. It's back to 4 buttons instead of 5, and the power gauge has shrunk back to just one. The character count has also gone very low compared to the usual roster, and there is no story mode this time, except that Iori is now seen flameless, Kensou sporting new gear, and Raiden being the new addition to the KOF Universe.

The flow of the game is now in time attack mode, similar to Tekken 5 and 6 and probably so on. And the game lasts only for 5 rounds. The way to win is still in 3 on 3 mode and its up to both players to beat the heck out of each other. To get a ranking, you need to be able to clear the round as soon as possible. And that's it. Don't worry, there's a whole lot of rankings to obtain (100 and below), just that you need to be speedy to beat your foe. Yes, no need to be flashy too.

So, is it good? In a way, yes. The Critical Counter system is a breath of fresh air and really gives some great creativity to show what you can do, its similar to Custom Combo scene in Street Fighter Alpha, Capcom Vs SNK 2 and even Snk Vs Capcom. The Deadlock system is also great, not just because its flashy, but its also a great way to strategize what happens after the Deadlock occurs. It's a little similar to the Parry system in Street Fighter 3, but there probably would be some damage occurs at a minimal. The one Max bar makes it good to simplify power usage and Max use among players.

The problem? There is no story anymore and it does no continue anything. Nor will it be the case in the console versions. This is a major problem considering the fact that every KOF ever released, had a story. This would mean, we would probably get a story at XIII instead of XII. And to be honest, many are waiting for the departure of Ash and the return of K' instead. The Guard Cancel system however is now cheap and a major problem. When the timing hits, then only you can get it done, but, it won't be like last time, as it consumes the Max gauge no more. This, is, very, cheap.

The speed of the game has also reverted to a more sluggish pace. Its not the true speedy style seen in normal KOF games, but, the speed is similar to Garou: Mark of the Wolves. The combo link timing is also, messed up. You can still link combos, but veterans would need to really get learning the new speed system being dished out here. Veterans, you have been warned.

Another concern is the low character count. At 18, there's very little to choose. Fans are upset that Mai is not in, and there's way too little women in the game too. In a way, its hard to be able to choose our variety of play when there's quite little to choose. This is after all a 3 on 3 game.

Overall, this game is a passing grade for me. The problem however, is the fact that with the change that was decided on, it feels like a demo instead of a full game. SNK should understand, that this is in no way, SF or Blazblue. Its not a one on one fight. 3 on 3 is the namestay. So, for the veterans, this may be very difficult to get the timing right for this game. Newbies however would love the 2D graphics and backgrounds in display. Here's also to hoping that the console versions get a little more extra, and not just 2 new characters. Until then, SNK has XIII to prove with to make sure, that they really get things right this time.

AirAsia trip to Gold Coast, Australia: Flight Review

What a flight to remember. I should say that this is the first time I flew on an airplane, and in fact, it is my first time flying overseas to another country. So, it was an honour and a pleasure to secure myself a free ticket last year in August, to make this trip to Gold Coast, Australia and to be graced by such beauty of a foreign country. This post will be about the flight, the aircraft, and those small minor details that I can divulge in.

My flight was supposed to have flown at 9.20 pm. However, there was a little bit of delay. I was thinking that the aircraft would be next to the gate, but this being LCCT, we had to walk a distance to the aircraft itself. When it rains, it would really be troublesome.

The aircraft boarded on was the Airbus A330. My aircraft however had an extra screen in front of us that provides various types of information available. Some however are locked and requires to be paid for RM30 to be unlocked. Locked content includes a bunch of movies, tv shows, music and the passengers disposable to watch on. However, the seat of the aircraft is a problem. ITS TOO SMALL. And the seat does not recline. It does, but so little that during my 8 hours of flight, I did not sleep. Instead, i was found sleeping in a library when my girlfriend was submitting her assignment.

The food, is so so. The Nasi Lemak is of OK standard, while the Big Bruce's BBQ Chicken was so devastatingly not similar to what is presented in the menu. It was a major dissapointment. The price however, was not worth it. It is common to have high prices for food and items in an aircraft, but the quality really does not match the value.

In other words, the flight itself is subpar. there's good value for money, but if my best friend can snag a RM 1600 return flight to UK, AirAsia X should at least do more and better to make sure its customers get an almost equal value for the flight. I was pleased with the entertainment system that lets us know where we currently are in the sky, but i think they can do better the next time. This wouldn't hamper my chances of flying again with AirAsia X, but i'd prefer having JetStar, minus their bad landings. Great job for making Malaysia proud AirAsia, I hope to see a better and improved service later on.

The Proposal: Exclusive Movie Review

Wow, the posters in Russian. But I like this once instead of using the common ones found. Either way, the tagline for the English posters would say "Here Comes the Bribe...", the movie itself is mildly sweet and good enough for a romantic comedy to watch.

Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) is being deported back to Canada after she couldn't clear her visa in the past. As a result, she blackmailed her Assistant, Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) into marrying her. As a result, Andrew took it to get a job as editor, only to have them go to Sitka, Alaska to get married. Along the way, mishaps happen and perhaps somethings do change, for the better, for everyone.

Like I said, the movie is mildly sweet and just nice. And its a good movie too. However, it wasn't that great, as there were some missing strings that was left loosened, and some unnecessary things to just fill the minutes up. There was a particular scene however that used the same background actress again and again and again. Like 5 times? I was sure they did editing, but having that actress come out way too many times really does make it feel like a movie and not a love story.

Sandra did her job well, and so did Ryan (I'm not a biased fan that would say he's rocking everything he's got. He did a good job, but it wasn't that excellent however). And the pace is ok, maybe a little jumpy in terms of the realisation created. But still, its a nice job.

Summer seems to not have that much of romantic comedies, or maybe my eyes were just too focused on this one. Releasing 30th July in Malaysia, you can expect this to be a nice diversion out of the family fun Ice Age 3 and the action packed Transformers to make you have a good time laughing and say aww for a just a little bit. Have fun later!

After Zed eats the forbidden fruit, he was outcasted from his village and made his way over the mountains. Following him is Oh. Along the way, they meet interesting characters from a murdering and sly Cain (David Cross) until meeting with the circumcission hungry Abhraham (Hank Azaria, and yes, it is Abraham) until ending up at a city that sacrifices vigrins to summon for rain.

Now, let me ask you, what does the poster imply? The earlier ages right? Well, that was what I was expecting, until they warped 500 years into the future, literally. The plot of story is just messed up. I'm pretty sure that audiences were expecting to get a movie about the adventures of Zed and Oh in the first year of earth. But what the heck? We warped to Abraham sacrificng Isaac? That's just really off. And perhaps this is the only problem there is with the whole movie.

Jack Black didn't feel that strong this time compared to his other movies. Heck, his voice acting in Kung Fu Panda was much more better than this one. But, above all the problems the movie has, Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse saved this movie and kept it as interesting as it can. Still charming after their major breakthrough in Superbad, Oh is just very interesting a clueless and young kid (that surprisingly with the costume makes him look like he's 24). Isaac also works through as a guy that makes himself be that accessible to everyone in the hall.

This is good for a laugh, especially at the first parts of the movie, that it looked the movie was in year one. But after that, you could do like what the couple next to me did, leave the hall. Its just not as good as many were hoping. Good thing Transformers is around. :D

A little quick announcement. For KOF nuts, Mature and Elisabeth Branchorte has just been confirmed for US consoles. Sadly, there's no Story mode this time, just arcade mode. Probably no boss too. Big bummer maybe.

The other news is I will be taking a break from updating this blogsite for a while. Maybe until end of this month, and then a short one later for my Australian trip. reason? Sony's PS3 Wireless Headset: Gadget Review

To pull things off, this time I'm gonna add some new reviews. The first of the planned ones is the gadget section, where tricks of the trade that might just impress anyone goes here. From drillers to super high end knick knacks, it'll be under this title. This time, it's the PS3 Wireless Headset.

The headset in this picture, is actually small. So don't be fooled. I thought at first it would be big and long, but instead it looks short and sweet. In fact, the style looks really nice and that alone actually warranted me a purchase.

The performance? it works great with my phone (A Sony Ericsson W300i) and even with my Skype applications (Via VOIP bluetooth). The standby time and talk time can really take a beating, while the charge time, may seem a little long at 3 hours. I was hoping it'd be 2 hours for a full charge, but that's alright. The sound is clear, although 5 points of volume control may be hard to stomach for some. It fits nicely in my earlobes and doesn't give any stress, provided you really snuck the headset in nicely.

My only gripe with this is only the manual that came with it. Mine is the Asian version, yet the manual really offers so little that I was mind boggled on how to effectively use the headset with my phone. There's not even a troubleshooting part for users. Sony should look into that.

Besides that minor gripe, this is an excellent headset and worthy of good praise. I like how you can charge it through the dock or with the USB cable, though it could use a longer extension. but still, loving it! :p

X-Men Origins: Wolverine: Movie Review

Did you know that the reason why I watched this movie, is actually for the guy standing behind Hugh Jackman on the right? And yes, it's those 2 guys, but mainly the first one. I've always loved Ryan Reynolds and hearing him become Wade Wibson, made me jump in joy. Unfortunately, and a very big unfortunate part, he was only available and talking for perhaps less than 10 minutes. Taylor Kitsch is also interesting since he's Gambit, and the sly but sweet talking guy had his fair share of moments, but wasn't that fulfilling either. Still, this is Hugh Jackman's movie where we learn of Wolverine's origins and how he became who he is, or so we think.

The story jumps straight to Wolverine's involvement with the Government. After leaving his old team and deciding to go on a sedentary life, murders of his old team succumbs him to go after Sabretooth, said to be responsible of the killings. We then get to the creation of Weapon X, or 10 for that matter and see Wolverine unleash hell. What happens then? You'd have to find out yourself now.

The movie excels in the drama part, because the director is known for drama sequences. The action however, is bland and maybe just a little too cheesy. The shots weren't done well either, but the sound effects does justice and the actors do what they need. Even Hugh sounded more like Steve Blum (One of the guys in charge of Wolverine's voice in X-Men Games) or his other predecessors for this matter. The effects were also grandeur too.

But that stuff doesn't really save this movie from being able to satiate action fans. Perhaps an R rating would help in the violence and action department. So, here's to all of us, who want to see more of Gambit and Deadpool in their own movies. I really wish Marvel bucks up and decide that Deadpool would be the best thing ever made, considering how quirky of a character he is. So, for a simple taste of Jackman's good old acting and some simple action and laughs, this one should be just right. But obviously not full price admission.

PS: In case you do go watch it, do wait until the credits have rolled. Sequel? You betcha? But where? Well, simple hint, Japan. Owh yeah...

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, CONFIRMED AGAIN! : Game News

The not-so-secret rerelease of MvC2, is now confirmed and headed to the PS3 and 360. I think I'm still bummed by how it's priced at USD 15, but I'm still a littl bit psyched by how this old goodness of gaming that has probably aged almost a decade is still being fought competitively in tournaments and so on that it was just begging for a rerelease on home consoles. It'll come to you this summer while the PS3 guys will get their goodness in a demo Thursday this week.

So, Capcom, start talking to Activision and Marvel again. We need the 3rd one, now.

PS: Summer 2009... Wow, Capcom is going up against Blazblue and KOF XII. Interesting. I wonder who'll win this summer? :D

King Of Fighters XII: Arcade Overview

The 12th installation of the famous King of Fighters series has now been released worldwide. As SNK Playmore of Japan has released the English translation of the website, I think it's best I also help out by letting gamers know changes and new stuffs included to the system, while still retaining what is famous in the KOF Series.

The old:
- Buttons are now back to 4. Meaning, Light Punch, Light Kick, Hard Punch, Hard Kick.
- Dash and back step is still in place.
- Blow Back attack is back to C+D (Hard Punch and Hard Kick). But a new addition is available to it.
- Emergency Evasion (And backward) is still A+B (Light Punch and Light Kick).

The new and changed:
- Blow Back attack can now be charged for more damage. Charging can also be done while in mid air. Blow Back could also be be chained into a combo.
- Guard Attacks now does not take out any stocks to perform. Can be performed any time when guarding and pressing C+D. A little bit cheating if you ask me.
- Fall Breaker used to be A+B when touching the ground. Now any button is pressable.
- Throws are done with A+C. For a back throw, hold back and press simultaneously.
- The Max gauge is now back to one stock, and it charges really fast. Too bad no charging can be done manually.

Critical Counter
- When the Critical Counter bar is full, execute a counter attack using C or D. The animation begins with a focus zoom on the characters and then the player can continue by pressing a combination of buttons that he feels deserving.
- Filling the bar would take either time, getting hit, or by beating your opponent up. Sounds like an Ultra gauge. Hurm...
- At anytime, the Critical Counter moves can be any button pressed until a green glow is flashing on your character. that will signal the end of the Critical Counter barrage.
- Don't waste the opportunity, dish out a Super Special Move (We don't call it Desperation Moves anymore.) or continue the combo as you wish, just make it count!
- Critical Counter can also be paired with the Max gauge to bring out a more damaging Max move. At anytime during the Critical Counter hits, it is possible.

Deadlock (Sousai) System
- This is something similar to a Parry system introduced in Street Fighter 3. The difference is that you use moves to cancel out. Meaning, if a both of you press D for example, the deadlock motion will occur, giving only a small chip of damage.
- When a deadlock occurs, if both opponents does nothing, they will do a back step to give some room.
- A variety of commands can be inputted when a deadlock occurs. Any move from jumping to Super Special Move is possible.

That's the overview of the system implemented in KOF XII. The console versions are rumored to have K' and Mai Shiranui in them. Also, another rumor (with actual screenies) showcased Blue Mary to be an addition. Most weird to my own belief is how Shermie is back, considering the fact, that she should be after the events in KOF 97. We would know more in the coming months before July comes ringing. Don't buy from this guy!

If the title caught your attention, it means that you are looking for the guy who you're not supposed to buy from. But actually, this article is about how I realised that gamers are also looking for arbitrage opportunities when it comes to games too.

If you don't understand what arbitrage is, read on. Before I went back to KL and did my business back home, I noticed that there was a guy in the forum I frequent who is telling the world that they should not buy from this particular person (lets call him Aminor). The reason here was because Aminor buys from different people, and then sells back the games at a higher price, perhaps by RM10 or RM20. In other words, the guy was pissed off because of how he feels that Aminor is actually cheating the people of their money.

Aminor is not doing so.

Arbitraging, if you noticed, is the act of looking for a mispricing on a product. It would mean that if you believe this certain item is wrongly priced, you can profit from it by buying it, and then perhaps selling it back at something that is of equal value. So, did Aminor did anything wrong? Of course not. He saw the opportunity and reacted. Apparently, people who believe that such act is wrong, is only saying so because they are jealous that Aminor can sell at a higher price and get what should have been the original seller's profit.

Arbitraging happens all the time. its a shame that certain people find themselves mislead by how the world really works and blame others for their inequity of being aware to what value a game can provide. So to sum it up, to the people who "think" they've been cheated, wake up and learn rather than making people think others are evil. You have much to learn.

A new Drunken Master: Movie Ideas

Just last year, we've been given a blessing in Martial Arts movies. Ip Man was released, and to raving reviews. Actually, as per title, I've been at this idea for a very long time. And I think it makes good sense that this idea comes back to us.

the last time I watched something recent on the Drunken Fist, is on The Forbidden Kingdom. And that was quite long already. Worst, that movie wasn't anywhere good except for Jet Li and Jackie Chan's fight scene. That's the only redeeming quality of the whole movie. So, why not bring in a new Drunken Fist martial movie while we're looking at it?

There are 2 ways I believe its possible, and there should be no interference from Hollywood. None whatsoever. To begin with, you can bring back something from the old days, and it is still possible. Audiences haven't gotten rusty from the old movie type genres, and Ip Man is a good example. So yeah, old props, old wine cups, Chinese clothings, all would still work.

Another way, is a new age version. In fact, there are many types of martial arts movies that can still be exploited and used for a new age setting. Perhaps a master stuck in a bar with no life attached to him and someone just eager to learn had just stumbled onto him. OK, bad way of screenplay over there, but there are many ways i believe this is possible. Movies such as Legendary Assassin can show that even at an old setting (I believe during the early 2000s) it is still possible to bring something new to this century.

So yes, there are various types and ways that new martial art movies can still be implemented, and there is a heaping supply of martial artists ready at disposable. So, movie industry, surprise us. Honestly. Bring something new while i daydream about the next Metal Musical featuring Jack Black again. Yes, I want a new one with Tenacious D in it. Thank you.

A matter of mispricing, or damn good deal?

Recently, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was just released. And that was 2 weeks ago. With that launch, reviews have been touting this game as no less than what GTA 4 has presented. And it has worked wonders too in sales (my side also). But weirdly, something has been bugging me a lot, and that is actually the price. So, at retail, my price is RM120. Elsewhere, it is sold at RM140 or RM145. So here's the question, is there a mispricing, or Rockstar just decided that this was a damn good deal?

Perhaps, we should analyze a few factors. For starters, the copies I'm selling, are made only for sale in ASIA. It can be seen at the back of the cover. So if we compare being sold in Asia, and being sold in the states, I think that we are getting an opportunity of a lifetime with the cheapness. Besides, its a GTA game at a ridiculous price of RM120, even if it is for the DS. At the states, it is true that the game is being sold at USD 40 (140 sumthing2 in Ringgit). So, we got upper hand here.

Another thing to gawk at is competing rival Square Enix are also selling their games at similar USD. But when it comes here, the price would be RM160, 20 bucks premium. So, what the hell happened here?

I am actually hoping that there is a similar trend going on later for DS gamers. Heck, even Wii gamers too. My recent copy of Guitar Hero Metallica for the Wii is at a killer RM166. Honestly, that is much cheaper than the copies you're getting from Play-Asia. If this is very similar to how cheap it is between a PS3 R1 and R3 region of a game, then I am praying my very best that this does come true, and in the end hopes to fuel more sales from gamers passionate in buying original titles. Honestly, this is a deal you can't miss.

12 Rounds: Movie Review

Wow, this was surprising. I never expected anything out of it, but this was a fun ride. I guess the promotion works when they say its from the director of Die Hard 2 and the producer of Speed. This got me shocked as it is a great movie to watch. Sadly, there's no value for a 2nd watch. That's the gripping part.

After Fisher (John Cena) caught Miles Jackson, one of the most wanted felonies in the world, life became hell for him after Miles caught up with him 1 year later. After kidnapping his girlfriend and bombing up their house, Fisher is forced to play a game called "12 Rounds" where he has to endure every single challenge if he wants to see Molly alive.

The plot pacing is intense. It does get you on your feet. The characters are also very likable and strong. Miles presents something similar to the Joker from the Dark Knight, but without the makeup. The supporting cast were also strong and the soundtrack moved things nicely. But there were scenes that were totally laugh out loud funny, and some that you would've expect from an old 90's flick. And like I said, once you've finished the movie, you've known everything and probably would just enjoy it for a one time deal. It is fun from start to finish, but once everything is shown, you'd probably wait for the next action movie to swing by. Good job Cena and crew!

The International: Movie Review

Wow. If only. If only Hollywood wouldn't come and mess things up, I'm pretty this is a great truth to be told. But sadly, I'm also pretty sure people would be bored out. this movie really relates a whole lot to me and what I stand for, and if you totally understand the whole context, you're left with something so grandeur that you'd try your best to get away from it.

The International Bank of Business and Credit is in charge of so many shady deals that its the biggest bank in the whole world to help with arms and munitions. Enter Louis Salinger, a man hell bent on taking the IBBC down. Along the way, twists continue to intertwine and make things a hell lot more worst.

The shots are subpar but the soundtrack is catchy. The plot however would bore people and the censorship can really just shove a foot up their arses. The action is ok though. But like I said, what really mesmerized me is how a reality is presented here. Yes, banks are evil. They don't deal with just arms and munitions. They do a whole lot more. The rest, is up to you to find out.

This movie is great if it got straight to the point on what this reality is about. Otherwise, it really is a miss.

Guitar Hero: Metallica: Xbox 360 Impressions

When it was first revealed as a teaser once you've finished Guitar Hero World Tour, fans were screaming. When the official trailer kicked in, it felt amazing looking at the band perform. And then the 360 demo is available, and gamers got the first little bits of pleasure they've been waiting for so long. This, is Guitar Hero: Metallica!

With that said, it's still Guitar Hero, but with 28 songs from Metallica, and 20 more from guest acts, this one feels meatier than the Aerosmith version. The HUD is tweaked a little bit, and looks nicer IMO. The font is also given a trashy feeling to it, perhaps a tribute to Metallica of some sort. Nothing changed from the World Tour formula, meaning the full band can still be played together with the full kit.

King diamond!!!!

What Activision wants to seperate with this experience is how they want to include Metallifacts. basically, its tidbits from Metallica previous outings like gigs, photos that would pop up during the song being played, although you won't be playing the note charts since you'd be too busy looking at the facts. Don't forget videos and probably music clips would be included and waiting to be unlocked.

Give it everything you've got!

Guest acts should keep you satisfied such as System of a Down (TOXICITY!!!), Alice in Chains, Diamond Head and so on. But what might be of concern to me is that the when playing the guitar, some notes that are missed can still be hit and goes on with a perfect note to it. Apparently, that is not addressed here. Either way, this game will be released on 29th March 2009. And I'm receiving mine next week. So hopefully this will make you all love the fact that with Metallica, Nothing Else Matters. :D

KOF XII Release Date and JOY!: KOF XII News

I woke up to a huge surprise. My wishing of walking around my usual forum and reading posts got me into a very likely and almost certain surprise. Heading to Shoryuken.com, that site gave me a shock when Gamestop has actually given a release date for KOF XII on PS3 and 360. And it's 7th fricking, July, fricking, 2009. :P I am pumped, and it's a day one purchase even if there's no PS3 at my house yet, but I'll need to fork out cash. :P

Even more details came into 360 screens from some korean website. The screens show up close how smooth and almost just not pixelated. heck, I can't even see any jaggies on those character models, and those screens are also going to be final shots of the arcade release. Game Informer was also giving more tidbits and extras for the console version. I guess after picking up what Capcom did with it's SF4 release on the PS3 and 360, new characters will be available exclusive to the consoles. And both English and Japanese audio tracks will be available. So, it's no more strictly Japanese, but please don't release a J Pop tune that is English. I screamed in agony when I heard that from SF4. This will also be a first for KOF in 2D series to have English voiceover. The previous one was visible in KOF Maximum Impact 2 or 2006 for the PS2 and Xbox.

But the coolest to me so far is that Game Informer is also reporting that besides having the casual online matches, spectators can also hop in to watch a match (making tournament videos more accessible around the world) or even record it and post it online for others to see. Neat! Also cool is the addition of Online Team Battle. This would mean that 6 different players may control the fate of each time either winning or losing a match! What might be a problem is how the players from around the world would get to play. Hoping that latency and lag does not affect players and the match or a potential disconnect might just be a big problem. Online battles would also enable voice chat and a lobby for matchmaking purposes. Here's to hoping they do it better than SF4 and HD Remix.

So there, a mega update for me that is just great and juicy. I am just hyped learning new systems such as the Deadlock (where a punch meets a punch), Critical Counter (Counter your foe and string a new combo!) and Guard Attack (that same old attack that prevents cheap wins. :D). So, 7TH JULY 2009. Book that KOF XII FANS! :D

James Brown gets Rock Banded!: Game News

Well, they had Snoop Dogg in it long ago, so, why wouldn't this be in this game? He's getting his own 3 song pack for 6 bucks and if you love his Soul style, you'd get it, and be that sex machine! :P

A Street Fighter History

So, to make sure no one else does, here goes that 8 page history that detailed from the beginning of the games roots, to its sequels, and to the latest Street Fighter 4. 2009 to be Year of Fighting?: Game News

Many of us probably have sampled Street Fighter 4 on either the PS3, 360, or even at the Arcades. The upcoming would be in the PC versions. But is that the end of the games in the fighting genre that will be coming out? hell no. Lots more are coming on the way.

As I've hyped before, King Of Fighters XII is also on it's way, releasing on the 10th of April 2009. The console versions will also be coming soon in July for both 360 and PS3. If I remember correctly, it would be a US release, so make sure to book July for KOF XII if you're a fan. You'll be given a huge treat with the revamp system and gorgeous 2D graphics.

Another peculiar title coming after the launch of KOF XII is Blazblue. Many may not know what the game is about, but it's developed by those responsible for the fun Guilty Gear series. This game also brings in 2D graphics to the foray and since it's a new title, perhaps a different way of playing the game. We can only hope for the best.

And at the end of the year, you'd be pleased to know that Tekken 6 will be making its way to both PS3 and 360 consoles. The game will be based on the Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion from the arcades meaning more subtle graphical touches and the inclusion of 2 new characters (Lars Anderson and Alexis Bosconovitch, if I got them both correct).

You just can't help but realize that the fighting genre is making a comeback after all those years of absence. Well ladies and gentlemen, polish your sticks. I can't wait to challenge you guys when the opportunity comes in. :)

Nintendo DSi: First Impressions

The Nintendo DSi is the 2nd revision of the popular Nintendo DS console (The First being Nintendo DS Lite.). So, with the DSi, some new perks were added. You get 2 new cameras on the front and inside the the DSi. I think the outside is 1.3 MP, and the inside is, well, much smaller. You also get an SD card slot for you to view pictures and listen to music. So yeah, there's that added support and then the DSiWare, small things that are downloadable to the DSi for you to poke fun with.

With the photo feature, snapping shots can be fun, and also mesmerizing. you can see yourself manipulate pictures you've taken in so many ways, but the best part would be that you could use the DSi also as a Digital Photo Frame, with slideshow features. The screen might be small, but it still does the job.

Then you got the music feature. You can record your voice and poke fun with it. Or, you could listen to music and tweak with that instead. So, it's a little DJ in your pocket if you like to think of that.

The DSiWare is like WiiWare, software made for the console and you can go and buy what game you desire if its available with Nintendo Points (Wii Points will be changed to that now). The better part of the DSi is that you could also finally surf online, without any Ram cart. Well, that is considering that the GBA slot, is now gone.

The DSi is coming to the states in Spring this year. But those eager to pick it up might find a piece at Play-Asia. But bear in mind it's in Japanese, so the language might give a problem. Have fun!

Helghast Invades Earth, with cupcakes?: PS3 Ads

I guess I'm late in this advertisement, but thanks to Kotaku, I got my shot and I was laughing.

It was funny without a doubt, since the Helghast did come to invade, by giving us sugary goodness. I mean, cupcakes. Who doesn't love cupcakes? Ok some don't but still, it's cupcakes. With cute Helghast cream on it. It's so cute you could go for seconds. :P

The Helghast decided to scare some guys away, and the 0.32 minute was pure gold. It was also funny looking at the Helghast proposing to a Brotherhood of Steel and shoving Snake away. So yeah, this ad worked great to the press alrite and it certainly should charm others. So, watcha waiting for? A cupcake awaits with your Killzone 2 copy! I think... :P

PS: The guys at Guerilla could really add that cupcake in Multiplayer for some fun perks. :P

KOF XII Confirmed for PS3& 360 July 2009!: PS3 & 360 News

Kotaku just reported of the trailer blazing in. So again, this is a definite answer to Kick Some Ass and on the PS3 too. I don't see any 360 logo around. So, we'll see what happens regarding the time exclusive. I'd be more interested to see the price point and the features of the game too. SNK Playmore had better go crazy considering Ignition Entertainment sweetened the deal of the KOF 98 Ultimate Match for the PS2 US version. owh, and that one has been released too.

A little update shows that Ignition just confirmed the arrival of KOF XII to PS3 and 360. Best part, its on July 2009. Not good for me as I intend to get my PS3 on August. :P

The Great Gamers Hideout Debate

I've been looking and reading at how much people have lamented, talked, bashed, raved, criticized various game shops for their con tactics and high price points. Of course, one of the shops mentioned would be Gamers Hideout, which besides getting great feedback from Xbox 360 gamers, are also getting kicked out by a bunch of gamers. Main reason, price point. I think it's time I clarify certain things about businesses that people should understand about.

Why GH has to sell higher than the other local game shops? Lets see. First, people believed that it is in Damansara. So, in other words, Damansara is a great place for high rental payments. The truth, not exactly. KLCC is much worst. Heck, Sg Wang is also a bad place to begin with in terms of rental. So, how is that them shops in Sg Wang can go cheaper, while GH is still darn expensive? a good way to answer this is to check the shopping malls itself on the rental, and we'll get to other factors later.

So, rental is taken cared off. Let me present the next reason, the layout. Honestly, if any of you have been to GH, you will know that they now have 2 shops, and the layout is nowhere near functional. It's classy. It's like going to Chilli's and having your meal there. Or maybe Chicken Rice Shop compared to a normal Nasi Ayam store. If you look at other game shops, it's so functional that every single placement of the items are made to advertise every single peripheral you could think off. For GH, it feels that you're tempted to ask if they have a demo at the moment that you can try out (Which they actually have til next month on Street Fighter 4).

My last point would actually be a bit surprising, but it is my main point. It is GH's direction of choice. If you know, it means that you've been supporting their call for Original Gaming only. No modified consoles, no piracy crap. It's all legit. heck, buying a 360 from them nets you the awesome 3 year Microsoft support from RROD. That's great rite? Well, not for some gamers. You see, when comparing back to local game shops, ask yourselves are those shops going for Original Gaming only? Or you actually see them selling pirated DVDs that are so easily obtainable once more in the country? Sure, they sell PS3 originals, so, what about 360s? What about Wiis? owh I see, only hot titles. So, could you find me Ninja Blade then? (Bernard Moh got it though). It's hard and especially when those shops can easily profit 3 fold from the original suppliers price that they incur. By not selling an item, or jacking its price up, the problem comes with how tough a battle is being fought between GH and the local game shops.

My lecturer once told me that he was willing to pay extra price on a place that serves great service to its customers compared to some hypermarket Hi and Goodbye service. I believe in that. Some gamers think that GH's service is bad upon first impressions and so on. This is one aspect they can improve actually. Consumers have grown up and becoming more price sensitive. The only option left is to make sure that you give great service and great support. So, wherever you go, consider things carefully before you simply judge and point. Besides, the best answer always comes from the man himself. So, why not just open that mouth and ask them instead?

PS: I used to travel to GH once and wanted to sample Rock Band. The long haired guy (Sorry dude, not sure which one are ya. :D) smiled and had to decline. I understood it but still I found it great to just visit there and ask away. Also, don't forget I'm selling too. :P

Rock Band Unplugged for the PSP: A shocking reveal

How do you play a guitar without actually holding a guitar? Simple. By buying a PSP and then purchasing Rock Band Unplugged. What started as a joke by Gamespot last year turned into reality just recently and is beginning to creep me out. Its announcement was the only thing to be had at the moment.

But some sources have said that the game would be played using the face buttons and you could change the instruments on the fly during a song. Perhaps a DDR approach of the face buttons would work. I guess the only instrument that seems in tact would be the Mic on the PSP 3000.

On a smaller fry note, Assassin's Creed and Little Big Planet are also making their way to the PSP exclusively. Well well, PSP ain't that dead after all eh?

What I could wish for in KOF XII: KOF XII Impression

AOU 2009 had just taken place. With it, KOF XII has been given a demo test of it (Although location tests have begun long ago). So, I am pumped no doubt. It is basically the only game successful on keeping my passion alive for games. So based on the videos on Youtube, I'll be explaining why and what is going on this time.

The story begins after the events of KOF XI. For those who have played the previous game, they will understand that endings had taken place (Aside from the very beautiful anime screens that were shown in each ending) as how Ash Crimson wanted them. He has successfully stolen the Kagura Mirror (used to trap Orochi) and then Iori's purple flame. And as you would expect, Iori in this game would be flameless. 20 fighters are stepping into the ring to fight once again 3 on 3 style, but what events will really unfold? And will Orochi be reborn, again?

The graphics is drop dead gorgeous. Of course, in the case of 2D fighters, some people prefer to stick to traditional things (CoughsSF4Cough). KOF XII was designed beginning with creating character models in 2D. They were then transported into 3D images. Once that was done, it was redrawn again in 2D using the 3D images that was captured. The result feels like an anime that you control. And however it goes, this anime is yours to show.

The gameplay system is also given a revamp. The Max gauge is now only a long gauge that is charged by executing attacks (bummer on not being able to charge). The system also introduces a critical counter gauge. Whether you get attacked or attacking, the gauge will fill up until its full. When it is full, it will begin to deplete, and you have some shots at executing the critical counter. When you do a counter, you can begin a sequence of combo attacks that will be very punishing when mastered. The system gives a nod to the old, and still brings something new to the foray.

You've got 20 fighters and they are ready to duke it out. This is by far the lowest character count in a KOF game. The original 94 also had 24 if I'm not mistaken. But still, looking at the amount of time used to create and revamp the game, it makes sense that it would take a long time and looks to be a fresh beginning to a great game.

I'm praying down that this games comes to the PS3 and Xbox 360 this year. I know that the arcade version is launching in April 10th, 2009 in Japan, and I'm also praying that TKAWorld has decency to bring it to Singapore and Malaysia. I need it bad!

On another note, here's what I think I would like to see in KOF XII for the console version.

1. Online Play. Duh, I've already talked about this before.
2. Custom costumes. I'd be happy to see Iori in his old threads again. Or even Athena in all her previous costumes (She has more than 10.)
3. Character challenge mode. Street Fighter EX pioneered this one. It was really fun and enjoyable watching yourself practice the move over and over again that it was just fun executing the combo. Although I liked KOF's Mission mode, this mode would give each character a lesson for us to master them.
4. Backstory on missing characters. We need to know what happened to them other 30 so characters that were not present. We need an official story SNK Playmore. And we need it stat.
5. A new way of Online ranking. You know, something that may have adoption towards what Killzone 2 has delivered (ie new perks and so on).
6. Game customization. This was gone after 98. I had fun actually messing around with hidden life and power bars, messing with the defense level, so on and so forth. It shouldn't hurt by giving us that sort of power right?

So SNK Playmore and Ignition Entertainment, please listen to my small requests and make this game worth it. I know there are English VAs assigned for the characters in this game, signalling a very very very soon coming of this game to the consoles. I'll be waiting to pounce on people for sure.

Ong Bak 2: Movie Review

What a disappointment. And here I was thinking that the trailer was great, and yet I've been given a story that was so weak that in the end the audience was still sitting on their seats, probably asking themselves what the hell happened. Suffice to say, a huge letdown.

I went for this movie with my gf before she flew back to Aussie. The movie stories about Tian, a descendant from loyalty that was outcast by some rebels and decided to take revenge back after he grew in a group of bandits. To spoil the story, in the end he found out who actually killed his father and was tortured to death.

Action, great. But I still had gripes to it, but I need to get to somewhere else. The acting, ok and not bad. But the plot and story is so horrible that I was just left gazed out. The only thing in my head was regret and I want a refund. And this is coming from how nice Ong Bak actually was and the 2nd was a letdown. Ok, enough with that.

On the action side, I was actually hoping Tian to be a strictly Muay Thai fighter. Apparently, the people who raised him also had a Japanese Samurai and some Chinese Kung Fu Masters that helped him develop more arts. Sounds good? It is, but it breaks his identity, especially since the setting is when we can still call it as Siam. The sound is ok, but the props were amazing. My gf liked the settings and so did I. I liked how the props was done and how everything looked great.

A minor setback is on the heroin. There was no significant of why she even needed to be in this film. And she needs to be more stable. Couldn't the director have used wires to help her instead?

Overall, watch the movie if you want to see some Muay Thai fighter going all out in various other martial arts. But you can sleep when they narrate the whole story. Trust me, it's better that way.

To Hadoken, or not to hadoken?: Street Fighter 4 Ads and Tips

With the hype of Street Fighter 4 blooming into the sense of multiple orgasm for males, it was a bit surprising to see how late the promotional advertisements were coming along. Perhaps in the US, the ads should be released 1 week before it's official release. In Asia however, I don't see any promotional marketing going on except for an upcoming tournament that will be held in Cineleisure on 28th February. But, going back to the advertisement, would it be great to ask yourself this question.

To hadoken, or not to hadoken?

I'm not saying that it's lame. But, it somehow wants to bring back the older days of the times where people never stopped dunking in coins into machines in arcades or even colleges. Besides, our younger parts have all been doing that (And I still am doing so playing SF2 CE) yet it does mark as something new too.

This is definitely the return of the beatdown.

So, as far as lame (read: Yes it is.) and late marketing comes by, you can spot these commercial at your gamespot.com or even 1up.com sometimes. IGN's review is a great show of how this one might be possible to takeover Street Fighter 2 and Turbo's place in the greatest games of all time ranking.

And I might be able to help with some tips in the game (Note: I do not have the original on either consoles or played the arcade version. it is all gathered from reading too much.)

1. Combo is all about timing. Button mashing is not a combo. Though it may seem tough, you'd need a very big mental image in your head to understand which milisecond should you hit that button and continue that combo. Practice here makes perfect execution and glorious beatdowns.

2. Fighters can get tired in long streaks. This means that if you start a combo with chipping damage (like 3 times LP) chances are that you're next hit is weaker than what it should be. Start strong when the opportunity presents itself. The opportunity can only come by how aware you are. A slow but strong start can be better than chipping someone's life 20 times.

3. Charging is not difficult. If you've played Street Fighter 3 before, you can do charge partitioning/stocking. It means that before you do a combo you can charge (example, Guile's Sonic Boom) back in 2 seconds and then execute a combo. (Combo example, charge db, release, 3XLP then Front MP). The same is possibly done here, but you can also charge while hitting those 3 small punches and then straight for a Sonic Boom. Keep in mind that 2 seconds is enough.

4. Don't be afraid to get hit in Focus Attack. Focus Attack is extremely useful if you release it right on time when your opponent is coming. If they jump, you'd get damaged. But if you charge it in 3 seconds you can release an unblockable attack that gives you a very huge advantage to perform more combos. On the plus side, it heals back when the focus attack hits your opponent.

5. Try not to turtle. Turtling is basically waiting for the opponent to hit you while you block or practically spam the same thing (like a Hadoken) on and on again. When the advantage presents itself, you beat him up. Go aggressive when possible. Since I did say try not to turtle, mixing offense and defense can be very useful in any situation.

6. Be wary of throws. Throws are good mixes to drop someone off their feet and perhaps continue with a combo or just make him stay scared. When someone fights, balance is important. Not just physically, but mentally too. Thought your opponent is expecting an attack? Try giving him a little poke and come closer. Pressing LP+LK would throw him away and you can try and see how he would feel after that. On a defense note, be aware of any light moves being thrown out when you guard. Be quicker.

7. I revenge you my damage. The Revenge meter pulls off Ultra moves. The moves for each character is different and can be seen in their movelist. But there is a trick. When revenge is already half, you can start going for an Ultra move. The more the meter fills, the more damaging that move will be. the trade off is that you need to get hurt then only you will fill the meter. So, if pulling off an Ultra means so much, think again.

Heavy Rain: PS3 Impressions

A stupid subtitle, or a mega conspiracy? We'll wait and see.

In 2006, Quantic Dream presented PS3 fans with a technical demo of the game. The purpose? To show off what the heck the PS3 can do. Apparently, it was not enough. Gamers wanted a hands on with the game, so it's pretty much not possible, since it was still in the stages, but Heavy Rain should really whet up some appetites with it's gorgeous visuals considering after how great Indigo Prophecy did before.

So, how far would you go to save someone that you love? In reality, parents would die for their children, lovers can do almost everything to save their loved ones. In this game, it's made to tell you how and what should you do, in a situation like that. Quantic Dream apparently is going to give that experience where every single decision made, can lead to a fatal outcome.

Silence! I KILL YOU!

In this game, based on the previews, you're a journalist. Apparently, the game would start out with you at a home trying to investigate what happened. This is the fun part. Investigate how you see fit and everything would happen in real time. In the demo, it's raining (giving some sense to the title), and the protagonist is trying to investigate. So, if it were you, how would you do it? Well, you can picklock the back door, try the window, or enter the garage first, anything makes a big thing. Quantic Dream wanted this game to feel like it was like stretching a rubberband. The more you stretch it, the more you get out of it. Or maybe, like reading a Goosebumps story, where careful picking leads you to the end of the real thing. Make some wrong moves, and walah, you're ended with something shorter or lesser info is being revelead.

Owh my Lord is this water realistic?

The demo ended with the protaganist escaping from a certain man who lived in the house she was investigating, and so far, it's been dry ever since. The visuals may be very beautiful, but we really need more stuff to help us out here. I'm very much anticipating this, considering how Indigo Prophecy was a major influence to my liking of game oriented movie. Only you control the ending, so end it with style.

The King of Fighters 98: Ultimate Match: PS2 Bring The PAIN!

Remember my previous review on the Japanese version of KOF 98 UM? Well, in case if you forgot, it's right here. So what is this post about? Well, it's the US version now!

But is there a review for it? Course not. Apparently, I don't have the copy yet since it's not even released yet. But, there's something very interesting in this trailer that I wanted to show you all at the 50th Second.

So, exclusive footage of KOF XII eh? So, here's what I'm gonna start thinking.

1. KOF XII might come to the PS3 as an exclusive or time exclusive. The time exclusive is because the Xbox 360 also has KOF 98 UM in their arcade list (which is releasing on March in Japan, not sure about Asian or US versions). It'd be great to know if the exclusive footage, is new gameplay footage, system explanation, move list video which would be great if you asked me.

2. KOF XII is continuing tradition with Online Play. But if it's possible, can they upgrade the system that Virtua Fighter 4 gave light to? I mean, Tekken and SF has copied the same techniques by giving rankings to people based on experience points and how many matches have been played, but I want to see something improve further since SF4 has unlockable costume which each grade. Make KOF XII much more deeper SNK PLAYMORE!

I am honestly a happy guy, serious. And I just I had the extra cash to fork out for this game. So, we'll see whether Guitar Hero: Metallica wins my attention, or this one first. :P

Mother 3, in Bahasa MALAYSIA???

So Mother 3 was basically translated way too many times with fan translations. But seriously, in Malay? Don't trust me? Well, a recent visit that ignited my interest (Courtesy of Mr. NineOverTen. :P) had left me searching for some fan translated works.

Turns out, a high school student in Kota Tinggi is currently working on such a translation. You can find his blog, and some screenies of his work right here. And honestly, I am very impressed! :D

Ryu Ga Gotoku 3: PS3 My Thoughts

The Yakuza series is actually a game that is similar to the Dragon Quest series. It's such a huge hit in Japan but in the US, less than mild. Well, low strength of marketing is a very big thing, and the game was really booming from the land of the rising sun. So, it wasn't surprising to see that a 3rd sequel is to come in, considering how the game gives you so much to do (which on other words, translates into a spiritual sequel to Shenmue) and also presents such a great story as it unfolds. I've taken my sweet time to watch the 20 minute Tokyo Game Show footage that was presented and showcased a whole lot of good stuff.

IGN did a coverage on the game recently and they were really positive about the game. The next move is to have it ported and translated into English so that even I may understand. Either way, the story this time still revolves on Kazuma Kiryu, but he would now be in Okinawa opening a orphanage with Haruka, a little girl who is close to uncle Kazzy during the first 2 games. But after a political and yakuza joint forced Kazuma to react, he must now return to Kamimurocho to settle things once and for all for his orphanage.

So the story has always been top notch. I'd say, on par with the Infernal Affairs series in terms of excitement and unfolding the mystery. It's not GTA, since you're more as a detective in this game. The game throws you with so many to do, so interact with girls, eat, drink, and this time, sing karaoke, play new minigames, so on and so forth. And the fight system is also given a makeover. Some thugs coming at you? Perform a quick action prompt and you might just dish some damage and start the battle with you having an advantage. Miss and suffer. There is no loading between transitions. Yes, no loading. And that is definitely spectacular.

One of the nifty things I realized was how Kazuma can learn certain moves through observations. Observe someone getting harassed? learn how he or she counters it and you just got yourself a new move. The graphic is of course upgraded, and I must say, it is a wow.

Fans have been waiting for the game for quite a while after Kenzan was released. Now it's the 3rd chapter in the modern times and I'm seriously hoping this comes out in English. Even an European release is great. :D

Street Fighter 4: PS3 and 360 Impressions

Hiyah! I'm ready for my big debut again!

I love fighting games. In my name also you can see how I love referring to 2 characters from the King Of Fighters series. So, how should I feel about Street Fighter 4 (SF4) coming in the way? At first, excited. And then, skeptical. But now, I've brushed off my feelings and understood that this is something that I can be really excited about, and the past generation of the SF2 crowd would also be too.

Though the title says Street Fighter 4, the game's events actually took place after SF2 and before SF3. So, would it be a prequel to SF3? I don't think so, because I've never seen the endings yet. But the idea is no doubt an exciting one, and we hope that some questions raised in SF3 like who is Remy's father and so on will be answered in SF4.

Presenting! Brokeback Fighters!

The graphics is actually homage. When people saw it for the first time, they were screaming their lungs because it is 3D. In actuality, it's still 2D. From here, I started calling this SF2 for the next gen. And I'll support that with the system too. The gameplay itself is actually a charm. And it is very much based on the classic SF2 style. Put someone in the corner and blast at them away. Cancel and stun them and make sure the combo strings never end. The depth of SF2 combo system is back and this time it marks a huge step for presenting an old system in a new generation. I'd also say it's a big gamble.

You've got new characters and a new boss to boot besides the original world champion cast. The console versions will have more fighters in them from the Alpha/Zero series. The new cast includes Crimson Viper, a super hot sexy spy that fights with weapons (Something like Malin from KOF), Abel is a mixed martial artist who might have a grudge against Guile, is from France and loves swinging people around, El Fuerte is homage to a Luchador, a mexican wrestler and we've got Rufus, where it seems that the trend is to bring in fat fighters who are agile. (I also love Sammo Hung. :P) The boss this time is Seth, a weapons director from Shadowloo who seems to be more powerful than M. Bison in which he can even copy other fighters moves.

I know I've used Ryu many times already but I love the guy!

The soundtrack is lovely. It's another remix along with new tracks to suit this gen and it really sounds cool. The costumes are well done, but the alternate costumes can give you some headaches too. The only thing left is to see how well the online play is, the tutorial, the depth of gameplay and how everything ties up.

I truly believe this is SF2 remade for the next gen. It's already a fighting game that is well made and feels really charming when you can have that experience on your hands. I end my post with this video by a Sean Gilley, who's way too pro with Guile in Street Fighter 4. I'd love to fight him someday when I get the chance. :D

The Killzone 2 Massacre Case

Wow. This is definitely a wow. How many times have you see a guy get so angry over the fact that PS3 has a really great game for the core players? Of course, never. And the guy in mention, is Adam Sessler, G4TV's host for the popular X-Play show that used to circulate in Astro.

So, what's the problem and why does it actually garner my post in my blog? Simple. When was the last time you heard someone who's quite famous that decided to go mad and crazy over the fact of how immature people actually are? Well, I can't think of any, but, at this crucial time where 2009 seems to be packed with so much excitement, this happens. Wii's getting more hardcore titles, and the PS3 is getting more games that are craving for others attention, and they've got it. Apparently, 10 year old sensitive fangirls (Yes, I refer them now to as a bunch of girls) are apparently scared. So scared that they taunt and speak in the internet like no tomorrow.

We're so close to the quality man! But that's probably ok. :P

What for? I mean, seriously, why not just let the PS3 have a great game, and you play yours? Are you jealous that you don't have enough dough to buy the game and the console? Then save up! If you've always wanted to buy 1 console for 1 gen only, then sell the other one and buy it! What's so hard about? I hear so many excuses, yet people just don't see a real workaround to it. Go find your friends, beg from your parents, bla bla bla bla bla. And all that you don't even need to resort to piracy.

Hey! I can see blood on the floor!

The human emotion is actually very simple to conquer if you have that will for it. Apparently, them fangirls can't handle it. One of the best moments i heard in the clip was about the VO one. What the heck? It's a VO. They sound pretty excited or normal to me. Compare it to other games that were also 5 star. I don't see no difference because it's their job. And paying people? What the heck? And trust me, I love the response to that. It serves a great benchmark to all and every single comment that includes something about paying people.

Don't stop shooting! Their AI's too good!

I too wait for the day when people desire to discuss normally among one another. I mean, seriously, I can't really have a decent discussion with those people. I do like the fact that when I was discussing about RE5, people were replying in good manners and we all got along. I had my gripes, and some of them agree to it. Others do disagree but we realized that it's a matter of preference in the end, and we're good about it. Now, if you'll excuse me, rather than see a bunch of people flame me, I'm gonna have my lunch and still save up for my PS3 and Killzone 2 purchase in the future.

Resident Evil 5: PS3 and 360 Impressions

I can see clearly now the rain is gone...

The above screenshot was during the days when Resident Evil 5 (RE5) was unveiled to the masses. It was then announced that it will be published by Capcom for the PS3, and the 360. It marks the beginning of the RE series to be in the Microsoft platform, and just recently, both platforms have received the demos for the game. So, the question is, how does it fair?

We are now in Africa, and this time Chris Redfield is being controlled to investigate what in the blazes is going on. Umbrella Corp is gone, but we have Tricell in play. Chris meets Sheva, who willingly helps him and introduces him to Africa for her own goals. So, what the hell is going on? We'll find out more when it releases.

The demo provides you with 2 stages. So, lets try cutting things as short as it could. Graphics, very nice. Sound, nice. Shooting mechanics, like RE4 for the Wii, PS2, and Gamecube. Controls, tight. Intensity, present. Fear level, abysmal.

I said that right. Abysmal. Meaning, it is not scary at all. You know you're good enough to kill all them zombies with your guns and ammos lying around everywhere for you to scavage and kill them with. So, where's the fun in that? What's RE without the fear level? Intense is of course. But you know those zombies will come around everywhere from you. What else can you expect?

I had a really big gripe on that part. I don't blame the demo since it has no puzzles in it. But if the game is similar to some reviewers have mentioned, I'd be really pissed if there was only 1 puzzle in the whole damn game. What is this, Gears of War? Where's my real RE game? Bugs are present in both versions, sometimes during online co op where the screen blacks out after loading (Credits to Neoardi for getting that bug). So, further improvement is plausible.

Come here little doggie. Shinji won't kill you. Heck he won't even buy this.

I have to say, I'm being very skeptical with this game. So please don't blame me. Shinji Mikami told the world he won't play it because it feels incomplete, and I can vouch for that based on this demo. I can't crawl in a fetus position when I open a door anymore, and that's something that I get when played the series before RE4. And I still feel it even when I've read the walkthrough for it already. When that feeling is gone, survival horror, is just not survival horror anymore. So, thank you very much Capcom for making this demo for me to review. I'm gonna remain as skeptical as I can be.

Red Cliff Part 2: Movie Review

It is amazing what this movie is. Epic, of course. But the sheer beauty comes from all the ensuing war going around you. Yet, even when the ending was presented somewhat softer than a big bang, the real gripe came from how everything tried to tie up, with everything to be said and told.

The Part 2 of this story continues immediately after the ending of the first. The successful Tortoise formation has given the people at Red Cliff hope to further press on. History wrote that the clear winner was the forces of Zhou Yu along with the Sun and Han factions. So, there you go. I spoiled it for ya.

But the story shouldn't have to be the main focus, its the sweat and labor that John Woo has given to make sure how this movie succeeds on conveying the right message. And it did. War never had any winners to begin with. Even the defending side loss, not because they had managed to repel the attack, but rather the loss of friends and family, all because of war. This is something that the world should understand, that war has never brought any good to anyone. It only ends with pain and suffering.

The script shines this time. The jokes were lesser though. But that's alright. the 80 Million project has given me a chance to not only appreciate the beauty of war, but also to find sadness from what it has given. So much bloodshed and slaughter makes a man question himself why should war even be necessary? I haven't felt something like that since Saving Private Ryan. Don't get me started about Miracle at St Anna. Spike Lee did a great job, but it's message is something else.

This movie is a great ride for me, with improved scripting of course. Those who've watched the first should not miss this at all. Those who missed the first should find the copy immediately before watching this movie for fear of lack of understanding towards what has happened. Today, the allies are united. Tomorrow, they shall be enemies. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is an epic tale indeed. And this movie has achieved just that.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans: Movie Review

Every war has a beginning. Of course. There wouldn't be World War 2 if there wasn't World War 1 right? We'd just get stuck with one world war. But putting that sort of argument aside, Underworld aims to tell the story of what happened before the war of Vampires and Lycans began.

Lucian was a different sort of a Lycan, a werewolf to be exact. He was born human, and was spared of his life from the Vampire lord. Lucian grew up as a sad case. He only was given the rank of a blacksmith where his home is a prison cell, and his life is filled with him infecting others turning them into Lycans like him. Lucian believes that no Lycan should be treated in that manner, and leads an assault of freeing the other Lycans, and finally beginning a war when his love, Sonja, a vampire, gets involved.

The story is more made to Underworld fans. The first movie was a fantastic one (Credits to Len Wiseman for that) and this is made to further tell us what is there to be seen many years ago before the war had began. The plot is simple, yet hits where it counts. Shots taken were ok, and the musical score fits well.

What I find lacking is that even though the action is gory and brutal, the scripting is a little dissapointing. It really felt that it could have been done better. The acting is alright, but Sonja seems to be a little of weaker part compared to the rest. The dark tone of the movie is great indeed, ending with bright lights as a portrayal of hope.

Newcomers had better watch the other movies first before this. I can tell you that certain things had lead me to certain confusions, but that is due to the fact that I forgot what Underworld 1 had a lot of and what Underworld 2 was all about. The end should be appeasing to fans, so, this is at least to hope for a fourth Underworld to fully tie things up. Silver bullets will be ready.

I'm your man. A very brutal man. :P

Ever since Mad World was unveiled, this game has seen controversy. Much like how GTA has done to the other consoles, this one is no different. A report from Ars Technica pointed out that a certain group of people got really mad at Mad World, believing that the console should be carnage-free. Here's my thought, get a life. This game looks very much awesome based on it's videos and hopefully based on what I've seen, it will deliver to the hardcore crowd as one big focus after the hype of Zelda.

The game stars Jack, a loner who seems to have been trapped in a game show called Death Watch. This is reality TV alright, but mixes something like The Condemned. The ultimate reward is of course a huge paycheck, and also, Jack's life. But based on the vids, Jack doesn't seem to be in it for the money. It definitely adds mystery to the game, and it makes us more enthusiastic over what it will deliver.

Now, lets talk visuals. It's black and white. So, before you get to thinking that this is a game that was made in the 50s, think again. Recent interviews with the Mad World team from 1up.com, the visuals were intentional, since putting it in color would make it, just like any other action game. They didn't want that. And I'd frankly say, it's best that they stick it this way since the visuals are truly striking. Of course they can port this to the other consoles, but we'll get to why that shouldn't have to be. The videos also show that it is more of a comic coming to life. You don't get those old Batman Kapows and Bams filling the whole scene, but every effect seems to be accompanied with a word. The words actually accentuates what's going on in the game and tends to make you feel that you're some sort of a comic book artist for that matter. Besides, this game seems to be influenced by Sin City or even the Spirit. They call it Spot Color technique where it employs black and white drawings, but with 1 chosen color. This game's taking red, for gory and bloody battles.

One against 2 chainsaws? I think someone is jealous.

So gameplay. How do you play this? Here are some suggestions.

1. Use your fists and beat the crap out of people.
2. Impale someone with a Stop signs.
3. Throw a drum at people, or even let them wear one. Multiple paths can be done here.
4. Chainsaw, chainsaw, chainsaw, chainsaw.
5. Sabers, dual sabers.
6. Throw them like darts. Heck, there's even a minigame called Human Darts.
7. Keep thinking. There's a whole lot more.

Put it simply, this game is what the core gamers have been wanting. Jealous of Gears of War? Here's your answer. In fact, I'm starting to think it's even better. The view seems to be a carbon copy of God Hand for the PS2 (Seeing as how Platinum Games was also made up of people from the now defunct Clover Studios). But that's not a bad thing at all. It's more zoomed out giving you a better view compared to God Hand itself. Regarding the sound, I think you would like it that John Dimaggio (Famous for his role as Wakka in Final Fantasy X, Bender of Futurama, and Marcus Fenix for Gears of War) is involved as a commentator for Death Watch. What springs my heart more is actually Jack's VA. He sounds almost similar to Wolverine during the X-Men animated series. The music based on the trailers, is something of hip hop, but somehow fits with the game. So, perhaps more of the same goodness? We'll see. It did work for Rambo's arcade game. So, why won't this one?

That's a whole lot of ketchup sir. Would you like fries with that?

I'm dying to get a hands on with this game, but I don't think I will ever will get it. :D MadWorld has been confirmed for a March 10th release. There's a new video showing a live commentary from 2 guys on MadWorld (Viewable at Gamespot.com) only to offer more juicy clips of the game. I for one, can't wait.

Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop : Wii Impressions

When I knew about Dead Rising for the Xbox 360, it got my attention as a very cool and endless way of getting yourself mauled by a whole lot of zombies. So, how would it feel when it went to the Wii then?

To start the comparisons, the graphics are lacking, but this is the Wii we are talking about. So, the graphics are ok, just that it feels a little bland. So, it's a little bit unacceptable. Capcom also decided to employ the engine used for Resident Evil 4 for the Wii. In other words, you get over the shoulder shooting mechanics when you use guns. The addition? It feels a little bit matching to the game since you are not killing waves of Zombies coming at you. Which is a problem.

The number of zombies coming at you, are minimal. So, Capcom was a little smarter to implement the RE4 engine consideirng how little are coming at you. They also seem to implement some big zombies to make it look as if it's a struggle to fight against. The shooting is spot on, meaning you can point and click as usual.

The HUD has been given a makeover. So, here we are also hoping that your reporter also sports bigger subtitles than the earlier make. Wiggling your wii remote to bat someone in the air will make you tired if you have to keep on doing it. Minus 1 point.

If the essence of the game is not touched, this should remain as great. 72 hours fighting your way through and through can be exciting, and plus Wii is lacking mature games. The lack of better option is gonna be a problem, but if you're desperate for some action before Madworld kicks in, this should keep you up for a while.

Rambo: Arcade Hands On

You won't understand what that poster is saying, but that arcade cabinet would damn well tell you that it's a Rambo game where you are John Rambo, the real lone soldier who killed too many damn soldiers during his missions. This is the real Solid Snake or Big Boss. And I lived for a few rounds to tell you what this is all about in the brief hands on.

The game takes you in various flicks showing clips from all 3 Rambo moives (Not including the latest one seen last year). Those clips would progress for you to play certain parts in the movie. And boy does it feel great.

The game employs Red Rambo and Blue Rambo. Either way, you are a badass. The Rage System gives Rambo a boost of invincibility when the meter is full and increased firing range and power when activated anytime during the game. You collect the power in the meter by doing speedy shots, multiple shots and headshots (Classed as Fast, Crack, and Heroic). And the power is really useful during the boss fights and during any part of the game when you feel as awesome as hell.

Certain times, you will be involved and prompted to do certain actions in the game. These segments employ precise accuracy on the shooting mechanics, as this is the part where I really loved a whole lot. If you've ever played the Call of Duty series, the zoom look would be familiar to you. Do it in this game (provided if the cabinet uses the Lindbergh system with the MP5 type of the gun.). You will be surprised how accurate it is. It works best when you need to use Rambo's Bow. And those scenes are also awesome.

My only gripe I'm thinking would be the soundtrack. Somehow, the Hip Hop beat doesn't really match that much. But still, I felt like a badass anyway by the gunshots.

I played this game until the 2nd Round, during the flashback for the scene in Rambo 2. During the play, everything was great in making you feel that you are Rambo. For those who are sick of me blabbering about this game, go find it out at One Utama on the Entertainment Floor. Every game costs RM2 per play. Have fun!

Bedtime Stories: Movie Review

If the stories tell you told came to life, what would you tell? If you were Adam Sandler, you'd want a Ferrari and 100 million bucks. Sadly, that didn't really happen for him, but his stories, did came to life, in miraculous ways, that it definitely was fun, despite some flawed scenes.

Skeeter Bronson (Adam Sandler) works as a janitor, or maybe more precise as a man who fixes a whole lot. So he's been given a duty by his sister (Hey Courtney Cox...) to babysit her kids. And based on how his old man loved to tell bedtime stories, so did he do so to the children. The coolest part was, they came true, in reality form. Now, he's supposed to be managing the hotel, but he isn't. But he got that shot all because of his story. Question is, can he get it?

Obviously another Adam Sandler movie means, more goofy and funny crap thrown at your face. But, this movie has a little family touch to it. So, children and adults alike would love the story and the scenes. I watched this with my GF and her bigger sister. And we had fun laughing at the movie.

The raining gumball scene was a flawed one if you can notice it. And then the later part another scene makes some odd choices on how to progress the story. The cool thing about this movie is how imaginative you can see the children can be, and then the story itself gets applied in reality context. That was actually a very cool way and also shows how stories and reality can end in a happy note.

The reality is harsh, that's for sure. But this movie succeeds in showing how reality can also help you understand that life is still happy if you can make it happy. Recommended for the family and the kids, this will make the adults feel like children once more, and the kids will just keep laughing. Enjoy. :)

Ip Man: Movie Review

Ip Man was a man who resembles your next door neighbor, very friendly and charming too. Always humble and never goes overboard by being cocky and uptight too. A really friendly man. So, why does he adopt and teach Wing Chun, one of the most popular martial arts in the world?

Donnie Yen takes the role of Ip Man (I must strictly teach that you pronounce his name as yip mun) as the grandmaster of Wing Chun during the early days of the 1935, where Fo Shan was the best place to learn martial arts. Then the Japanese Occupation kicked in where every China man landed to poverty. So, how does Ip Man prevail?

The focus on everybody's mind would be the action sequences in the movie (considering the director is Sammo Hung). But the real one you should be looking at is actually the story. And let me tell you, the story and plot is fantastic. The pacing never bores you (coughdarkkinghtcough), and it truly is an eye opener. As a bonus, you learn what is Wing Chun itself.

I could say many good things about the movie, but there are still some flaws in some scenes. The factory scene has some flaws, but barely noticable. Some shots were done beautifully, but some were also not that great. The depression around the land was done beautifully showing how merciless the Japanese were during the past.

This is for sure a yes movie for me to watch it. So, I won't waste that much of time to tell yout o watch it. But, if you are interested to learn a little bit about Wing Chun, just read a little bit more. :D

Wing Chun was created by a lady. And the best part was, she used Wing Chun to beat a barbarian who wanted her hand in marriage. Ip Man was also one of the students who practiced most of his time with the "wooden man" while also being a humble and a family man. And I think most of us would already know he taught Bruce Lee about Wing Chun.

Wing Chun emphasises the use of the "wooden man" to understand the flow of the energy from the hands. The 3 points (2 above, and 1 below) shows the flow of the energy coming from a person (Based on the use of two hands and 1 leg. Obviously you can attack using two legs to one center point on the low area). The continuous blows should represent how women repeatedly attack in one place as a concenteration point. The harmony is achieve by understanding how to manipulate the flow of the energy from the 3 points. Well, that's pretty much what I can say about Wing Chun. The rest, is for you to discover. :)

Los Dan Faun: Movie Review

When was the last time I watched a good Malay movie... Hurm... Let's see... Mukhsin I believe. Yup. That's it. So now, step aside kiddo, Los Dan Faun has taken your glory away and it demands a 2nd watch. Honest. This is really good considering it's a Malay film.

Los and Faun are two good friends from Melaka (Klebang to be precise) looking for a job in KL. Little did they know Faun has an ability that makes him aware of where missing items can be found. Even more amazingly is how he can pin every single source onto the evidence located. Then came to a glitzing watch owned by Soffar al Sogood (yes, that's the name) which is missing and the wife wants the 2 to find it back. Trouble ensues as Faun couldn't use his ability anymore and begins a search to unravel more clues to the mystery of the missing watch.

What makes this story great is actually the pacing and the placement of the comedy. Almost every 5 minutes I saw myself bursting with laughter, and still the story manages to go through well. Some scenes do look a bit flawed and doesn't really hit most spots (as in general comedic terms for this country) but it's still a great achievement nonetheless.

I can tell you that my gf watched this for a 2nd time and still she laughs at the scenes. She didn't spoil much of the story for me, but still I was able to enjoy it, even if she did spoil it. It actually even begs for a 2nd watch not only because of the humor, but how the ending is all tied up and made sense. But still, some scenes could've been a little bit more obvious to keep the audience guessing, and still would manage to make the audience feel that some parts were left out by them.

The careful analysis of Faun makes this movie worth it. The insurance people also contributed greatly to how great this movie is. Erra Fazira, is typical Erra Fazira. Afdlin is a little bit on the scenes, but that's alrite, the depiction works.

You should watch this movie if you love a good laugh and great pacing. Honest. I'm watching it again later, so I don't give much of a damn either way. So, don't be afraid if you lost something, cuz Los Dan Faun can surely find it for you. :P

Bolt: Movie Review

I think we have a good year of animal movies this year. First we got Kung Fu Panda, which was very entertaining. Then you've got The Dark Knight (hey, he's a Bat technically. :P). And now, Bolt, something from Walt Disney that is in no relation of Pixar at all. And it's lovely.

Bolt is a "superdog". Well, that's what he think he is as the director puts him in the show where he stars as a great superhero. In reality though, he's just another dog as usual. He gets loss in New York and must find his way back to his person, Penny helped by Mittens, the cool cat of the alley and that damn pesky hamster that stole the show.

John Travolta, great. Miley Cyrus, great. The rest of the cast, great. The story was also not bad at all. Just that some scenes felt a little too awkward to watch. That damn hamster is awesome. All his scenes showed how mad a hamster can be. And it was really fun. The ending, typical but works.

The shots were done nicely. The CGI is also good, considering the fact this is not a Pixar movie. I'd say it's really a fund experience to just sit there, watch how awesome Bolt is and how cute he could really be. Most memorable would be the begging scene, and it was pure bliss.

Watch this. Watch it with your family and have a blast. I didn't get a chance to go for the 3D version, but it's already great for me to watch the normal version. And remember, the superbark is private and confidential. :P

Wushu: The Young Generation: Movie Review

When you look at a Martial Arts movie, the first thing that comes into your head would be glorious coordinated fight scenes that transcends boundaries. So, what if you looked at Wushu: The Young Generation instead? Same idea, but not for me, as I understood what it was going to be. The problem is, the weak story and horrible directing does not make up for how the Wushu scenes make up to.

The story revolves around Li Yi and Li Er, 2 children that were raised to be great in the Art. They go to school and meet new friends and grow up together to compete in the National Wushu competition. Then, a villain pops in as a man who loves to kidnap children and ship them to various places. They meet, trouble ensues.

As I said, the story is a little bland and weak. The direction is worst. The young lads and lass were not that good in fact. But at least I know Sammo Hung is still in top form. He was more than redeeming. Most shots were not placed, and the scripting was also bad (Does a young lady ignore what an older man says to her? No, that does not happen when that man asks her if she wants to eat with his family and just becomes selfish. Bad move).

At least I'm happy to see Sammo Hung. Really. He has some fight scenes with him, and it was awesome to see him fight again. Who says age has taken away his agility and strength? :D

I don't recommend this movie. Really. Not if you're looking at at the story, or thinking that this is filled with fight scenes. But you should if you wanna see Sammo Hung and appreciate the art of Wushu. Now, back to the drawing boards and then go practice somemore. :)

Impak Maksima The Musical: Theater Review

What do you do with a car on stage? Well, the only thing you can do is probably Donuts or 360s. And that was what exactly happened at yesterday's last day of Impak Maksima The Musical at Istana Budaya. The result, was definitely mixed.

The story revolves around DK, the guy who is the current Drift King. Along the way the story progresses to make DK go to battle with Ray, the antagonist, include love interest Ika and ends with the death of DK.

So there are only minor parts of the dialogue, and lots of parts for the singing. And to say about the singing, certain songs felt not so well, while some others worked like a blooming flower. The real stealers of the show are Dynaz, the guy portraying Amran, and Dina. The rest are actually, so so. Zul Huzaimy's parts are certain hits and misses. Zarina AF is also another.

The props are alright. Heavy with marketing (even the scripting) but still does well to generate some great looks. Lighting effects were also great, and also makes great use of the depth of the stage. One of the main problems, is how the story does not progress well and feels more like a love story rather than, a true blooded racing musical (which is actually achievable).

Though it was the last day, this review will serve it's purpose as a reminder. It is a great effort to put Malaysians into the theater scene, and I may only hope for further improvements in the upcoming plays from other directors. Though the story is weak, the price of admission would be worth RM20 or RM30 to get a real value out of the play. Good job, but you'll need more than just donuts to impress people.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa : Movie Review

I don't like to move it move it. Even though I moved it moved it. And then I laughed out on it. And I like to ah, review it! Surely this movie hits in some parts, but the impact the same felt with the first movie, which was a little more than a passing grade.

So Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman wanna go back to New York. Turns out, they crash landed (It definitely was not kissing the ground with just a peck) in Africa, which turns out, to be the home of Alex when he was younger. Marty finds his, creepy herd. Melman becomes a witch doctor, and Gloria is out looking for love, in a very cool and convincing Moto Moto done by Will.I.Am. But problems arise, and the gang, still looking for a way home, is still getting into too much of it.

There's a case with comedy nowadays. If you've seen Disaster Movie, you will know how totally outrageous and blindfully dumb the comedy was, though it raked in millions. The same case applies here, but in redeeming quality this one actually does it way better. The dumb syndrome still persist, but scenes including new characters are practically the one that work best. Parodies were done in an OK manner, and as I've said, some scenes hit, some miss.

King Julien gets more air time, and his only performance that felt miraculous was the sacrifice part. Mort became more annoying, but still managed to be tolerable. The penguins are always over the top and amazing. While the main characters, probably Gloria and Melman work best. And the romance clicked too, amidst all the chaotic humor going on.

This will most probably make kids laugh for sure. Alex is adorable, Marty shows some spunk, Gloria punch things up in a beat, and Melman, though silent, works well in his scenes. So brings the kids for laughter, but just for their laughter. The average adult won't find much to attach themselves to, but it's a fun family ride when all of you are together.

Quantum of Solace: Movie Review

The 22nd Bond movie is a sequel, which I believe has never been done before, more so the story being like a trilogy of some sort (Hollywood trend?). It starts with a big bang, but ends in a low note for practically everyone who watched the movie. It might not be as great as Casino Royale, but it still fits as Ian Flemming's James Bond.

After Vesper's death, Bond decides to pursue the people that were responsible. In vengeance mode, he stumbles with Dominic Greene, a man who has a very huge link to a corporation that even MI6 has never heard off. The story goes on to introduce Camille with her own personal vengeance, and the two may be able to pull it off just right.

People complained a whole lot that Bond doesn't deliver this time, because Casino Royale was way too exciting to watch. My dad calls it the lousiest Bond film ever, and my mother thinks it's just dull to watch comparing with Casino Royale. As for me, it has some great thrills, but ending on a low note without making us feel that there is more to develop on is what makes this Bond a bit disappointing.

And Bond this time, is a little more quiter than he was before. Perhaps it's a more wiser approach. Smooth and charming is the Bond label, and this one is almost accurate. Olga works as the new Bond girl, and she works pretty well. Gemma Artenton, though very brief, also works as the 2nd Bond girl. Mathieu, urm, sadly, does not look much evil. In fact, Le Chiffre was much more bad ass, and I grew to like that one better as a demonic evil enshrouded in a cunning face.

The rest of the supporting cast did great jobs. The shots were well made. the action was a little hit and miss, especially the climactic part that didn't feel logical. And they should've stuck with Bond using an Aston Martin. That car was made for Bond.

So, should you watch it? Well, if it's on a wednesday, then yes. The money paid in full wouldn't really do full justice until we wait for the 23rd movie. And so with this review, I hope the next director and his writers find a way to put Bond back in the limelight. Because I'd rather rewatch Casino Royale over, and over again.

Tropic Thunder: Movie Review

What a sad state of shows. Not that this movie is bad, but there's only 5 screenings allocated for most theaters. Nothing more than 7 or 8 considering how great this movie is compared to Bangkok Dangerous. But nonetheless, this is a work of great humor with minor flaws indeed.

Ben Stiller goes director, writer and actor for this movie of his about 3 actors making a film about a "true" war story. After the director is blown up, they then believe they are still in a movie but actually against a bunch of terrorist in the jungles. that's where everything goes on a loose and kaboom.

Downey Jr. was fantastic of course. Playing as an Australian who went through a pigmentation operation to be a black man, he pulled off his role really well and brought me to tears with his humor. Black was fantastic, but didn't really feel fully utilised as an addict. Then there's Stiller, who worked well for the movie.

The shots were great, and the effects are cool. The scripting didn't feel cheezy, although 1 can understand why the word retard had offended a bunch of people. It was not properly censored, which of course ridiculous. And then there's Matthew McC0naughey and Tom Cruise. Matthew was sheer ridiculousness, which is of course very great. Tom Cruise is even more crazier. I can hear show me the money repeatedly in my head.

The problem was a few scenes felt hits and misses. Though some worked well, some others just doesn't feel complete and could have been developed further. What you see in the trailer doesn't really add everything into it. But still, this movie shouldn't be missed.

A screening on its own is great. But to go for a second I wouldn't really recommend due to censorships and all. So tell yourself that you lose 2 hands and fake about a war that you haven't been in, cuz Tropic Thunder will blow your hands, and stomachs off.

Bangkok Dangerous: Movie Review

There are many ways to call a typical action movie. For growing up kids like me, there used to be lots of shots and lots dead bodies lying around. And that's pretty much that. So that's what Bangkok Dangerous is too. Just the problem is a little bit lesser on the bullets though.

Nicolas Cage plays as Joe, a hitman who's too lonely as it seems in this remake of the Pang Brothers same movie and same title to it. So, he gets an assignment, to kill 4 men in Thailand. And he always plays by his rule. Well, until he got to Bangkok that is. Having Kong as a messenger, his life starts to go tumbling around him, and it even includes a romantic interest in the name of Fon. The tagline "Nothing's more dangerous than a hitman with nothing to lose" is actually a huge diversion to the whole movie itself.

The movie is actually about a hitman trying to be humanistic again. Being too lonely, he gets himself a student, which he actually thinks of him as a friend, though he doesn't say it. And then there's about love, where all of a sudden a hitman decides to reignite his senses about love. So yeah, it's actually a movie about that, rather than about a hitman on the verge of killing everyone who he doesn't really care about.

The action is ok. It's not bad, but it's better than Max Payne. But then the whole movie is a little confusing. It's actually about a hitman on revenge, or about a hitman out to be human? This is a really big problem actually. And then there's how weak it is to see the sidekick of the main villain's acting. It just feels a little dissapointing. And Cage, well he does some flaws, especially when he decides to go full blown with his enemy during the waterboat scene. So much for being a stealth hitman.

So yeah, though everything is done nicely in the other, the flaws i mentioned just makes it like another typical action movie, that I sadly can't even say for the action junkie. I didn't get my fix, that's for sure. But if you're interested to see plans executedly brilliantly after The Dark Knight, this should be good. And if you want to be a hitman too, go ahead, there's some lessons to be learned.

Max Payne: Movie Review

When Max Payne came out for the PC as a game, it was brilliant. The story was top notch, the pacing was fantastic, and the action was great. Not to mention the signature jump-to-the-side-while-shooting-then-rolling mechanic that worked very well it's bullet-time feature. So, when I heard about the movie coming out, I was happy. Especially when Mark Wahlberg was to lead it. It turns out, it's another game to film adaption that did not worked well.

Max Payne is looking for the killer that killed his wife and child during a robbery. Along the way, he met dead ends. That was until, a recently gorgeous looking Olga Kurylenko was also murdered, proving there is a connection between his wife's robbery, and the recent case. Along the way, things get surreal. That is where things fell apart in this movie.

To blame Wahlberg won't be the right thing to say. Rather, the story hampered him down, which really shows in lots of scenes. The pacing was completely off, and I'm sure people wanted more of what can be seen in the movie. The nightmare scene is missing (which I believe would've scared all those 18 and above people as it did on me when I played the game) along with his signature jump. Though bullet time was there, but it wasn't used. Perhaps John Moore thought it shouldn't have to be used because lots of other movies already did.

The rest of the actors felt like hits and misses. Certain characters work really well, like Ludacris. But some feel totally off. Though Olga was short in this movie, I think she did her portrayal the best. That is even comparing to Mila Kunis' Mona Sax.

In 1 hour and 30 minutes, I was really wishing for things to go further. Why couldn't it have been 2 hours? What was the problem? There were many more scenes that can be included to make things work. But it's not here. It totally feels like an incomplete movie. A sad truth really, for gamers who would've wanted more action and more engagement to Max's grief.

In a way, I wouldn't recommend watching this movie. It didn't make me feel anywhere happy about it. It should be pulled back and redone again. It definitely could use a lot more pain and painkillers. At least homage to the gamers and the movie itself would've done justice for the whole franchise.

Flight of the Living Dead: Movie Review

Lets make a few things clear. 1, I hate horror movies. I hate getting shocked by scenes that makes my heart race to the death of me. 2, I hate how I can't anticipate what's going to happen and when it is going to happen.

Which is why this movie sucks.

I watched this at Astro 8 MONTHS AGO. That is if I remember it correctly, but I know it was way before it even got released in Malaysia. Story's simple, an aircraft is carrying a corpse carrying a virus that turns one into a zombie. Turbulence happened, and the people suffer. Simple. Like snakes in a plane, but this one has less story, less shocks, and totally is dull.

I said this movie sucks because of what viewers want. There's no shock. There's nothing creepy. And you already know what's going to happen in the end. Though the pace might be fine, everything else feels hampered. And don't get me started on those fright scenes with the actors. They feel lame enough.

Thinking of watching it? Get an Astro. Seriously. Avoid the movie at best. If you need a good place to sleep and snore in, the movie hall should provide ample comfort.

Tekken 6: Arcade Review

After winning the Tekken 5 tournament, Jin Kazama takes over Mishima Corporation, and out of nowhere unleashes hell to the world. While G Corporation, seen as a savior to the world, steps in to help, lead by Kazuya Mishima. Father seems to be going at son for i'm unsure of what reasons, but the Arcade version of Tekken 6 doesn't really put any emphasis on story for each and every fighter. Rather, it's a time attack of sorts.

I had my rounds with Kazuya, and I'm impressed with the graphics. Even when it's displayed on a Sony Bravia 32 inch HDTV, which can only spin out 720p, it's still looks sharp and magnificent. The moves look fresh, and new moves are added into the foray, besides new characters.

The only problem worth noting is the excessive juggle system implemented. So, get your gloves in and prepared. You won't like it when someone flies you up in the air.

To walk you through the stages, you fight for 8 rounds, and then coming into the bonus round, which u fight against a big robot. Once the robot is done, The King Of Iron Fist, Jin Kazama presents himself and battles it out with you. After that, comes the real boss, Azazel, a sort of monster from some pyramid tomb.

I must say I enjoyed playing this. It's available at Sogo 8th Floor. You might wanna invest on Tekken 6 cards so to save your character and buy numerous costumes to put a little personal style to your character. Currently, the price for 1 game cost RM1, for 2 tokens. And the card costRM15 each. So have a blast while you still can. Jin awaits.

Yakuza 2: PS2 Review

The cover you're looking at spells Ryuuga Gotoku. In translation, it means "Like A Dragon". But in the USA, its easily called Yakuza 2, the sequel to one of the best games ever made for the PS2. And this one, definitely does not dissapoint.

After the events of the first game, Kazuma Kirryu now lives with Haruka in somewhere faraway from Kamurocho. One day while visiting Shintaro Fuma's grave with Yukio Terada, Terada gets shot from the Go-Ryu Clan. The clan is lead by Ryuji Goda, who dislike the fact that he is called the Dragon of Kansai, and wants to be the sole Dragon alive. Elsewhere, a mafia is resurging, and everything happens to pull Kazuma back into the game.

The graphics, a little bit better than the previous game. The sound and music? Still top notch as ever. The story pacing and plot? Totally outrageous and ingenious. The missions? Over abundant and well worth playing. That's the gist of the game that makes it deserve already a 9.5 score for me, but the best shining and a little bit of a silly in part, is the game play.

As a Yakuza, u beat people up. With your barehands. And it has never felt more satisfying ever since the first game came in. This version takes thing up a notch by introducing a few new items to tweak with, but with perhaps some minor frustrations.

I liked how Kazuma was slow when he was in the first game. A friend of mine (Why) stated that the slowness made him feel like he's a walking tank, and I agree. The 2nd version makes him feel speedy, like some kung fu master instead of a tough Yakuza. And in all honesty, that's the only problem i felt that i encountered which was unsatisfying to my experience.

Finishing the game unlocks hard mode, which I will visit soon for completion purposes. This game can be said as GTA, though it might feel limited as u are unable to cruise over town with a car. But the missions, the experience, the life of eating, drinking, going out with hostesses shows that there's a lot to do with Yakuza. This is definitely something we've wanted from Sega after the years of waiting for it to be converted. Now, where's my Shenmue? :D

The Score: An awesome 9.0/10.

Megaman 9: Wiiware Review

You don't wanna be in that situation, but this is what you will most probably see most of the time while gracing Megaman 9. And let me tell you, to sum up the value of the Wii Points spent on this, is truly pure bliss.

The story itself is simple too. After peace was restored, all of a sudden all robots made by Dr. Light, or Megaman's creator all went haywire. Dr. Wily accused Dr. Light of doing so, and now wants to save the world instead, that is if you help him fund his bank account. Sensing amiss, Megaman then goes to investigate, in full 8 bit glory.

Now, I did say glory, so the graphics is definitely out of the question. Besides, Capcom decided to go back to 8 bit, and released it in 360 and PS3 too. And still, it's more than worth it, in my honest opinion, to be in the Wii.

Control is very simple. You use the Classic Controller, or the Wii Remote held horizontally, which would be homage to us gamers of the 80's. You jump and shoot, and make way to the boss. Rinse and repeat. No dash, no charged shot, no fancy armor, just Megaman, and his trusted weapons, owh and a few more little goodies thrown in.

This game has a to do list for us gamers to earn bragging rights, besides posting time attack scores. That and collecting bolts in the stages allows you to buy E tanks to help fight the game further, and even unlock classic costumes. There are additional content downloadable, so make sure not to miss the Protoman content, it makes the game tougher.

Speaking of tough, this game is just about it. It's so tough that you know you'd throw the controller to the TV. But the reward of beating it, and it is Megaman classic, just makes it well more worth it for the 1000 Wii Points spent on.

Glitches of the old are definitely there. you'd see annoying enemies pop in again and again when you decide to turn back, and in fact even killing bosses without having to lift a finger. Such things do happen, but hey, it's Megaman, what's the point of fighting bosses without working out?

In all honesty, this is 1000 points well spent. In fact, the value is more than enough to compensate for the points spent. For gamers, let not the 8 bit graphics fool you. This game will take you spinning in circles until you know that beating the bosses again and again, is why you decided to take on Megaman 9. Long Live 8 Bit GRAPHICS!

The Score: A great 9.0 out of 10.

You Don't Mess With The Zohan: Movie Review

Should you mess with him? Not really. And when I say that, I do really mean not really. It's basically Adam Sandler once more in a movie. The thing with Adam Sandler, is he is ridiculously funny in his movies, but his aren't any milestones to achieve about. Yet, if you're looking for a good amount of laugh, this one is still good either way.

Zohan is sick of his life as a counter terrorist for Israel. The thing here is, he not only wants to quit, but wants to work with Paul Mitchell as a hair stylist. better yet, he even keeps a book of Paul Mitchell's hair styles and decides to do the avalon on himself after he fakes his death. Taking the name of Scrappy Coco, he doesn't make it to become Paul Mitchell's stylist, yet for a small town beauty salon owned by Dalia (Emmanuelle Chriqui). Not only does Scrappy Coco gives hair styling, but also.. some... extra... services, purely sexual to his old customers. But soon, people know who he is and things start ugly. Not to mention a guy named Waldbridge who wants to destroy the community and make a mall out of it. Will Zohan prevail?

The movie is a little uneven at times. Certain parts of it looks too serious, but certain parts truly blows your head off. It's nicely scripted if I may. And the main message serves to be there. Why do we need to have a war? Lets all live in peace. Why not? The acting is fine and ok, just the pacing is a little uneven that dampens things and makes us feel hard to catch sometimes.

If you adore Adam Sandler, this is a great movie for you. Otherwise, I'd rather you go for something like Forgetting Sarah Marshall instead. But definitely not in the cinemas. With this slapstick comedy, you'd know this movie to give good amount of fun to you. He'll definitely blow you away.

Back To Love: Music Review

If you've been to Rock Corner recently, chances are you might have noticed that they are exclusively and currently selling an album entitled Back To Love In Bossa Moments. Either it's played or displayed, you'll find it hard to ignore the songs in this album.

It's a 16 track album boasting from some of the latest and all time greatest hits, but in bossa moments. Tracks range from You're Beautiful, originally by James Blunt, Don't Stop The Music, originally by Rihanna and even to Fly Me To The Moon, originally by Frank Sinatra, and also Burt Bacharach/ Aretha Franklin's I Say A Little Prayer For You. At a price of RM44 90, I think this is hard to miss, especially to fans of the Bossa genre.

I love this album. In fact, the moment I listened to the songs, I was amazed by the arangements and the tunes linked to it. Imagine that you could make Don't Stop The Music into something really soothing and felt a little bit funky to it, on par with Rihanna's own original. It's not surprising that this sort of compilation has done before, but the tunes selected were great nonetheless. Even the playlist was managed accordingly and personally defines how latest hits could even become so soothing to the ear, and perhaps for some made even better. Personal favourites for me would be You're Beautiful, Fly me to The Moon, Just The Way You Are, and Bleeding Love.

The album is exclusively available only at Rock Corner, For fans of Bossa, go ahead and pick it up. For those who like to cruise into soothing tunes reading your favourite books or enjoying your favourite cruise, don't give this a miss. It'll soothe your days away.

21: Movie Review

Winner winner chicken dinner. That's what you get when you have 2 cards that equal to the number 21 in a game of blackjack. But this movie is more than just having a chicken for dinner. It's about how to turn blackjack into a money printing machine. But make no mistake, the term of card counting-which heavily applies in this movie- has actually been seen before in the movie Rain Man. Go find that out.

Ben Campbell (Jim Sturgess) is a genius. 4 pointer all the way for us Malaysians. But for his standards, he's way beyond that. While wanting to write an essay in MIT for his Robinson Scholarship to get him into Harvard Med School, he found out that his lecturer, Mickey Rosa (Kevin Spacey) has ways to show him that blackjack might be even better then a 300k scholarship. Joining a team of bright students he learned card counting, the best startegy to play blackjack. From there, every single nerd's dream became true, at least, for a while. And yesm this is based on true events.

Jim portrayed correctly as a nerdy guy, and I was amazed at the character development actually. Yet, the latter moments in the movie i felt it was off. Kevin Spacey did strongly here, and I liked it very much. Overall, I believe that the only weak point here is audiences would've wanted to sample more of card counting. It was only 1 scene that showed how the system worked. Certain parts of the movie didn't really felt was neessary, so it was more of a filler to a 2 hour long movie. And I should also say that the script was nothing to boast about. It's too simple and felt queesy.

If you were looking for a gambling movie, this wouldn't be it. Best to keep watching that old God of Gamblers (the 1st one and the prequel mind you) and Casino Royale for much better depiction. But if you're interested in card counting, give this movie a shot. You'll come out the hall wanting to win big money then.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Movie Review

The link in the poster here would direct you to a blog written by Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) on how he hates his girlfriend of 5 years, Sarah Marshall (Kristin Bell) for breaking up with him and leaving him for mega rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand). Peter then decides to go to Hawaii to relieve things off and met Rachel Jansen (Mila Kunis). Funny thing though, Sarah is also at the same hotel, along with Aldous.

The marketing is charming. In fact, find a comment in Sarah Marshall's blog that actually had a cool comment from Jason Segel. Now, many may not know him, but he's been a great actor in How I Met Your Mother and I admire wholly on his acting skills. This is no different. He's great, along with all the other casts. The storyline however was a little tad typical. It's probably another "we-know-the-ending" type of story. But the real deal here is, 1 big problem that truly hampers this movie from being great from where I watch it. Specifically, where I watch it. Other thing else, it's a fun typical love movie.

There were 2 choices with this movie, censor it probably or don't show it at all. The thing is, the board didn't do so. It totally pissed me off when watching this movie. Honest. I'd be fine if it wasn't here at all. But here, in a very unprofessional way of censoring things, they did go on with it. And the best part, it wasn't even properly done. I could see nipples dammit.

The jokes were lewd and dirty. Very. In fact, I was hopelessly sitting in a room where people didn't really understand them. I could hear my echo of my own laughs, and people hardly understood. A few of the audiences next to me and behind me did understand most of it. I don't mind people don't laugh at the jokes, but hey, it's life.

I wouldn't really recommend taking this movie to the cinemas. That is only because of the unprofessionalism. That's it. Otherwise, for a fun and dirty movie, it's fine really. An Ok movie at it's best due to it's typical nature. So, Forget Sarah Marshall at the movies. But do rent her. :P

Wall E: Movie Review

Wow! Pixar just made a love movie! No kidding. This is actually beyond the stereotype family fun oriented movie. But still, this one isn't so far from being a family fun oriented movie, but the romance in this movie makes it so worth it that it stands higher above other Pixar movies.

Wall E is a robot that was built to clean up man's biggest problem and issue, garbage. The Earth became a place that was so full of garbage, from 1 big company that people escaped from them, 700 years ago, leaving the job to Wall E's. That is, until 1 left. This Wall E only has 1 cockroach as a friend, and lived a very lonely life. Wait, robots know loneliness? Owh they do. And Wall E, is yearning for love. That was, until came Eve, a super highly sophisticated robot looking for plant life in Earth. And Wall E knows, his journey to find love, just got much bigger.

From Pixar, the humans who gave you The Incredibles and Rattatouille, they have not dissapointed at all. I must say The Incredibles was very fun, but Wall E proves that it can pull off so many fun and laughter out of us that it made things truly great. The animation is top notch, and once again, the detail is beautiful, something that Blu Ray nuts would love to watch. Since the scenes were computer generated, lets move to the story then.

It was a little slow. When I was about to just say "Ah this is..." it then brought life back up to the movie. This is the only problem with the movie. Nothing else really. The voice acting brought the character's to life with emotions. And the romance is truly something to behold. This is actually a typical love movie where boy meets girl. Or... lets say its robot meet robot. But because of that, it's not typical anymore. It's different. Way different.

Props to Pixar once more for this animation. It's truly great once things throttle up til the last scene. And you wouldn't feel that regret of paying the money for it. Well, nuff said for me. What else are you doing here for? go on! :D
